In a writing-based method of roleplaying, being a good writer is part of being a good roleplayer. If someone is writing badly, it absolutely, 100% weakens how strong they are as a roleplayer.

Which, you know, spiel here about how being a good writer isn’t all there is to roleplaying, and we’re all at different skill and experience levels. And writing has nuance. Not everybody focuses on the same areas, and strengths differ, and a fish will do badly in an exam where they have to climb a tree. Yadda yadda.

Yeah, of course, obviously. There’s subjectivity involved, we all know that, but some people ignore the objective parts too!

Bad writing exists. It’s shitty to shove crit on someone in a rp environment based on it - like it’s not the place for it, and unwanted/unqualified crit isn’t something people are entitled to give. But bad writing exists. And bad writing is a flaw in roleplay styles that primarily use writing.

Writing is like- it’s what I want to do for the rest of my life. It matters to much to me. It pisses me off when people pretend all writing is on the same level. And it also pisses me off when people act like just because writing quality is only a facet of roleplaying, that it’s suddenly irrelevant.
