At times of great stress, Erie tried to keep an steely disposition. He’d take a deep breath, he’d square his shoulders, and he’d logically work his way through whatever challenge was... well, doing the challenging. He’d like to, anyway. But his sister had always been the stoical and brave one out of the pair, and she wasn’t here to keep him balanced now. No time to think about that -- no time for deep breaths, or squaring shoulders: the challenge doing the challenging was a clattering in his kitchen when he knew he was the only one in the apartment.
“Hello? Murderer?”
Nothing wrong with taking a direct approach, right? Erie rounded the corners, holding up the hand that wasn’t holding his cane. “Before you do any murdering, just hear me out: kill me while I’m asleep, please,” he requested rather politely as he gingerly continued his way into the kitchen. “I mean, I’d like to AVOID the murdering thing altogether, but I’m a reasonable kid; I get that we all have things to do in this life. I’m an anxious child who eats lemons plain. You’re a murdering psychopath who kills anxious lemon-eating children. That’s fair. I understand. I empathize. I validate. Just I don’t like pain, is the real thing, so if you could like... do it at night, when I’m asleep, and preferably quickly, so I don’t wake up...”
