More than a single sentence. Hector stared, caught first by surprise, then absolute pleasure at the sound of Guai’s voice, as if hearing a melody for the first time. There on the shroud he leaned his weight into the ropes, chin resting on his wrist, and devoted all of his attention to the immortal.

Hector’s eyes came alight with recognition, his smile, for some, something contagious. But to the cambion, it was natural, its purpose benign.

“Mary Shelley! Ah! I haven’t read that in ages.” Books such as hers were stepping stones of his childhood. He often wondered what conversations with her must have been like, if she had been an ardent philosopher, questioning everything, as the book had once made him question the motives and consequences of everyone around him.

But that had been short-lived, striking him now as a wave of bittersweet nostalgia.

“Do you think that’s just the way it is? To exist with some manic obsession, you finally get what you want, then, sitting comfortably – or uncomfortably – you’re free to judge your past self.”

"Yeah." Hector's enthusiasm almost startled Guai, who'd been dwelling in the deep, cold, still waters of his thoughts. He had been sinking, and the other's excitement suddenly yanked him ashore. The trouble is, he would have preferred drowning.

The other's smile was not contagious to the witch. Rather, it was like a mockery. An insult. He almost wanted to bite at him Why are you looking at me like that? With so many positivity in his face? Was Hector confused, or lost? There was no reason to believe anything good about Guai had caused such an expression.

"I don't know. At least it keeps things interesting." the questions could not penetrate anywhere, neither heart nor mind. Guai had no idea what was 'the way it is'. He had no idea how people usually lived. He had no idea what existence meant or what the point was, or how normal people felt every day. How was he meant to know the answer to that? Just opening his eyes every morning (afternoon, more accurately) was a battle. "Obsess over something to distract you and give you something to do until you die."

"Ah, shit, brother." Sounded familiar. His first experience as an immortal had been... similar enough. Anything he could steal out of that hotel office, only to feel a tingle in his fingers, and a pressure in his stomach. Boring as shit.

Ronan barely knew what was happening anymore. The room was a swirl of bodies and colours and sounds. Lights and darkness. Heat thrummed throughout his body. Yet, he knew those words, and laughed the way the devil would.

He fumbled around, missing his pocket several times before managing to slip his hand inside. A baggie was felt through, two black pills were brought out and settled on his own tongue. Stuck out, lucid smile on his face.

"'ome an' 'e' i'." come and get it, said with his tongue dangling.

There was an energy shift at that. Axel's jaw set and he knew that he had to decide which direction he needed to go. The smart option would be to walk away. He didn't have immediate backup, although he did have the right equipment if it came down to it. Not that he really thought about either of these things before throwing a punch at Nachim. "Fuck you!"

Nachim jerked, the punch easily missing him, the wrist caught and tanked to bring the other closer.

A confused and irritated look settled in his face.

"You didn't really think you could hit me, did you? You should know better, Admiral." they weren't strangers. The other had seen his speed hundreds of times, reaching a level no human could even see, matching the movement of light. "Is it a fight you want, or to be right? Pick, quickly."

Oh, she wouldn't get away that easily. Not after making such sweet sounds. Emil's arms wrapped about Pinpirin, holding her close. 'Where do you think you're going, mia farfalla?' Again Emil's tongue extended, but his actions were playful in a different sort of way. His movements were slow and calculated, including the very moment he once again licked Pinpirin along the neck.

Pinpirin whined and squealed, her hands whipped up to cover her face. Oh dear, she was trapped in his big, muscular, arms... with his tongue lapping at her...

The familiar squeezed her eyes shut, biting down on her pink lip so hard she drew blood.

"L-let me go, Emi!" but the order came out trembling, weak and wavering, hardly convincing at all. Punctuated by a whimpering little moan. "This is-is weird!" 'weird' for lack of a better word.

" i told you not to do that." the lycan bites out regarding tangguo's magic. it make shim feel helpless and he hates it and kind of loves it. what the hell is wrong with him. what sort of apex predator revels in having its fangs shaved down? a pathetic, unruly one.

being made to wait just makes him bristle even further. gian was not renown for his patience, but it says a lot for him to sit there and. obey. like a good dog. disgusting. he pulls out his phone and starts scrolling through the dick pics in his instagram dms so he doesn't think about it too much.

"don't be a fuckin' prick about it." hissed harshly because tangguo had tugged at a particular nerve. nearly cracks his phone and thank god he didn't because he really can't afford to replace another one this year. he's been there before. not as a purchaser. prostitute back when that word was all there was to describe people like him. it was surreal to see sex work become so normalized in the time he's lived. sometimes he's bitter about it because if he had just waited it out maybe he wouldn't be so ashamed and boiling to his core right now.

"i don't pay to fuck. you think i have organize something to get attention? i was just ordering coffee and you offered to take me out to the most expensive restaurant in town. be so fuckin' for real." oh, he needs to count to ten. adjusts his bangs and takes a breath. "all offense, but you seem like the type to go into maid cafes and proposition the underpaid workers. it's not my fault you dress like a creepy 4chan weeb." he really needs to learn to reel it in. especially with someone who is admittingly fascinating.

"My apologies," he offered the world's least sincere apology. With a hidden smile in his eyes, no less.

He found being on one's phone at dinner with another quite rude, but he said nothing. Tangguo eyed the other carefully. Just because he did not do anything about it right then and there did not mean he was letting it slide. Rather, he would keep it in mind. For later.

"I'll be however I want, whenever I like." he still made no move to order that dessert. "In fact, talking to me like that only makes me want to take longer. Maybe saying something nice will make me speed up." So, he started to eat even slower. He sipped his water, cleaned the corner of his already clean mouth with his napkin. Ah. How relaxing a nice meal could be.

Tangguo hummed, laughing softly, "You're right about that. The curse of beauty can be very convenient when things fall into place. But when you're bored, or the attention is unwanted, isn't the story completely different?" the image only made him laugh harder. "You'll find I'm usually the one in a maid's dress. They're very convenient to clean in." whatever that meant to Gigi, however the other might take it. He was sure he'd just opened himself up to ridicule.

The question had him humming. "I'm not quite sure. I lived as a regular tarantula until I found my master, without ever keeping track of the years. I've lived for... eighty or so years as a familiar. How about you? How old are you?"

Zahrosa watched his reactions with an intent, interrogative gaze, taking in every morsel he gave her. She liked this, liked this part - watching him, watching his reactions, seeing the flicker of hunger in him that she so wants to know more of. He leaned closer and she grinned, defiant and unabashed in her teasing, blinking long lashes up at him with a faux-innocent look on her face.

"The chase is half the game, hmm?" She cocked her head, letting silence hang in the air between them for a brief moment. A smile appeared, a calculated glimmer of a thing, perhaps even genuine. "Would you prefer I be crass? Would you like all the sordid details?"

The sorceress drew in a breath, as though preparing for something. Regarded him with a critical look.

"What would you like to hear? That I would enjoy taking you to pieces? That I would crack your ribs open with my bare hands and lick the lovely curve of your diaphragm as it fluttered for me? That I would like to see you opened up as though a fruit, displayed on my table like a buffet? That I would play in your organs after ripping you apart, stuff myself with them, create such sordid ritual as you could only dream of?" The smile returned. "Frankly, it seems a shame to ruin the surprise."

Her doe-like expression only made him feel sick. The smiling. The fluttering of eyelashes. Like a school girl trying to flirt with another student many years her senior. Even that disgust bubbled and churned in his stomach like something pleasurable. He was aware of her inner twisting of emotions, the fight he had with his consciousness and his heritage. Mara sure was a sick being to be the spawn of.

"Is that so?" he should not expect anything less of a being like her. A spawn of something just as cruel. "If you're asking what I prefer, I prefer you did not speak at all." but that would be too easy, wouldn't it?

Sang listened to her description. Patiently. A blank expression as void as his unfeeling reaction. The construct was in a rare position. He was a composite being. Someone had already torn him apart and stitched him back together. His very birth had been no birth at all, but a surrection of the best parts of various creatures sewn together. He could not feel violated by the image, because it was his very nature. His organs had all been touched and toyed with before.

"You would be disappointed to know you wouldn't be the first to have such thoughts about me." he rose his hand, wiggling fingers and twisting wrist with black seams. "And you would be more disappointed to know I am even better at evading than I am at fighting." in the blink of an eye he could be home. Just like that. "It's a wonder I'm even here now, still. Maybe I'm hoping you will say something more interesting. Like, did you know I was here? Do you know what I am, who I am?"

Yáng Tiānxī knew when to play it safe. She knew when to retreat, to let those who wished to fight each other fight despite all the well meant attempts. War and death seemed to be everywhere around, it made only sense she would want to survive no matter what. But to take in a stranger in clothes from foreign lands? And on top of that, creating an antidote for his poisoning? As Tiānxī was still wondering, eyes drifted towards the person resting on her bed. He could wake up and end her life in a blink of a moment or he could indeed be a person in need. With her thoughts drifting off, the apothecary checked on him once more, relieved the fever went down. "Just who are you?"

It was not easy for a reaper to become unwell. It was near enough impossible. Just like with alcohol and drugs, it required a dose that would easily kill a human just for them to feel it slightly unless they were victim to the placebo effect. This was some strange magic. He'd call it dark magic, but couldn't imagine something dark harming one of Death like this. It must instead be light.

He trembled, feeling his body fighting against the poison he'd mistakenly drank. It was foolish. Had it been a sword, a bow and arrow, he could dodged it. A fight, he could have win. But to be blindsided...

Kaho's eyes slowly opened, finding the voice that spoke to him. "I am Shimatani Kaho..." he barely managed, raspy, faint, "who are you?"

It was better than being cursed in whatever native language Guai called his own. Better than a shrug of dismissal. It wasn't beyond his scope to believe that had this man wrong - not all wrong, but wrong just the same. He wondered a lot of things, and now wondered a few more as he stared out at the Pacific, reflective, biting the flesh of his lip. Eventually, he turned back to the rigging, breaking apart a charred rope with a single tug. Hauling what they needed from the hold was going to be the most weary task.

What damage would there be to speak, he thought. Outright rejection was already on the table. Thrown in the ocean?

"Where I grew up, everyone in the community was Catholic. I would see symbols everywhere. Jesus on his cross, Alpha and Omega, Chi Rho. The smell of burning incense, the priest's robes looked like art. It was all like magic to me. And then I met Nachim, and others. I saw a witch performing a ritual over a symbol on the floor. All of the crystals she used, and incense," he scoffed. "Again with the incense. You must be very powerful, to do magic just like that." His snapped his own fingers for emphasis, and nothing.

"Oh. Please, forgive me. I'm..." talking too much.

It took Guai a while to see where Hector was going with this - at first feeling all prickly in his unnecessary defensiveness. He wondered, a mere flash of thought before it was quelled, if Hector was about to tell him witches are pure evil spawns of Satan. He'd be right, of course. But it was rude to say it aloud. Especially to Guai, who was part of Satan's very own coven.

But that wasn't what came. A compliment came. It started to feel a little clearer why Hector was so popular. And why Guai was not.

He sighed, shaking his head at the apology, continuing to mark the ropes he would later use magic to change. "You have to be taught how to use crystals, candles, and incense. Before I joined the coven I was forcing magic out of myself like a crazed scientist, desperate, eager, frothing at the mouth to accomplish something. The world did not spin fast enough for me. Snapping seemed to make things go faster. It worked for me, I stuck with it." A quote came to mind. Frankenstein. Fitting. "'A resistless passion drove me forward; I seemed to have lost all soul or sensation but for this one pursuit. It was indeed but a passing trance'."

Questions Hector had considered long ago. Or well, what felt long ago to his lifetime. The answer was most likely morale, character building - a means to keep busy. From what he understood, from everything he had seen from the most powerful of spellcasters aboard the ship, one could live their existence sitting, letting their magic run their life as automatic as the mechanics of a clock.

But with his leg hanging out of the shroud, and his other foot not faring much better, Hector was otherwise distracted - and further distracted as something invisible pressed upon him in four places. The hand above his head remained firmly gripped as he was readjusted, not realizing until he was set to rights whom his savior was.

The cambion sighed, grateful, practically lying on the shroud as he caught his breath.

"Thank you. Thank you, thank you." He swallowed, throat suddenly parched. "Where did you learn to do that?"

"It's fine." what kind of question was that? It was a valid one, of course. Most creatures had to learn their powers from somewhere or someone, but it wasn't a question he's ever heard be asked. "My... coven, there's an academy, they teach you stuff like this."

Guai took a deep breath. That was the most he's ever spoken to the other. That was more than he'd ever wanted to say to him. But, it wasn't like he'd sworn off the guy and had committed to being an asshole towards him. Wanting to avoid someone was not the same as bullying them. He wouldn't refuse to answer an innocent question like that.

He would, however, not return the question, though it danced on his tongue. Where did you learn your powers? It was swallowed. He focused on his work once again.

Axel watched her carefully as she began to grind the herbs. After a moment, he replied. "Just some asshole who was causing problems." The wording was careful, implying the problems weren't directly with Axel. "After I broke a glass on his face, his buddies separated us."

Raeni hummed. He hadn't forgotten that she could easily look into the past and find out the truth about this, had he? She wasn't going to, though. She chose to trust him. A little.

"Sounds like quite the adventure. Who do you get your temper from? Maybe you should return it to them, and let them keep it. You can go on your own way without it, hear?" she reached for a small pouch in her box, bringing out a small bit of clay to add to her herbs. She kneaded it all together. It would then be turned into a clay face mask, which she reached out to spread gently across his injuries.

That catches Jaehwa's attention, and he looks up at Kaili, the corners of his lips turning up into a smile. "Why does it remind you of me? That's cute, though. Should we make pasta to completely fit the theme?" The scene ends with a kiss, but Jaehwa pushes that thought to the side for now, or else he would start to blush because of the implications. "Wanted to stock up on some healing salve. I fear it is nothing too exciting," he says as he walks up to Kaili, putting his hand on the small of his back and gently pushing him out of the room. "But imagine if instead of healing someone, it would actually turn them purple. It happened to me once when I accidentally stirred it one too many times."

"Pasta sounds good right now." Kaili grinned, almost bashfully, "Mm... because, recently, as far as I know, you sometimes rescue dogs," that was one reason, but alsoooo: "and, I think, you look a bit, like... a kind of cute puppy, in my opinion."

"Oh-" he started to laugh as he was guided away, purposefully dragging his feet so it was difficult. "There might be a market for people who want to be purple, out there, somewhere. Not me, though." he turned around suddenly to smile at the other, "Popcorn?" Although, popcorn and pasta was an odd combination.

Rak was driving home from a marine research facility he'd been requested to visit that day when everything started to go wrong. Not only was his hunger biting, his tiredness stultifying, but his car had now started to sound like a cobra had weaselled its way in. Great. Love that.

There was only so far he was willing to drive before he felt like he was a danger to society. At the very next gas station he pulled up, parking near the side out of the way of the pumps. Thank goodness he did, too. As soon as he switched the engine off there was a loud clattering noise of an engine dying in agony, and any attempt to restart his Honda Pilot resulted in failure.

He banged his head on the steering wheel before slipping out to enter the gas station. It felt like the start to a horror movie, actually. Car malfunctioned in a gas station in an unfamiliar location... and when the clock struck midnight, all the gas station workers turned into vampires!

"Helloooooo-?" oh! There someone is. Hopefully not a vampire. "Hey! My car out there just broke down. Do you have the number of someone I can call?"
