He has to be in control. To suppress so much, lest he become overwhelmed by it all. And Tatia is pushing him for more, but can he even give that?

“I fail to see what you’re concerned about,” he comments, casual in tone but holding so much more unsaid.

He was getting a little tired of friends of the Cullens. It was bad enough having them back in town to begin with, but the more that they hung around, the more they seemed to attract trouble of their own -- especially where Bella was involved. He wasn’t concerned -- the Quileute pack could more than handle themselves against whatever storm rolled in off the horizon, and there was a certain dark eagerness in him to meet danger head on and use all that his wolf form was capable of. That current of graceful violence that was older than himself. But where the Cullens were concerned, he was playing nice, upholding the treaty as he always would -- until they broke it, at least. Besides, they were about to face bigger dangers than the local coven and begrudgingly he knew that another vampire on their side could only help their odds.

Hopefully Carlisle was right that they could trust her.

"What are you, back up?” Sarcasm oozing with a snort from the back of his throat. There was a sly little smirk as dark eyes appraised her -- appearances deceived when it came to vampires, but it was still rather fun to taunt them a little.
