❛ we’re gonna survive this, right? ❜
grand feats of dwarven architecture and engineering were truly remarkable, even to those unfamiliar with what such work entailed, and yet athelstan always found it hard to fully appreciate that ingenuity when he was the one trapped by it. deep underground, confined with friends and a party of darkspawn, struggling to breathe as a poisonous gas filled the antechamber. the magic was a little lost.
darkspawn were an all too common foe now but this gas was another issue entirely. as roselyn and the others dealt with a genlock alpha, a darkspawn emissary and mix of genlocks and hurlocks, athelstan struggled to find the lever that would let them breathe easier. some let out more gas, some did nothing at all and none had ceased the flow. magic didn't work either, with enchantments protecting the exit door. if he didn't work this out, they were screwed.
roselyn joined his side once she'd finished with the darkspawn, athelstan's arm deep inside a hole in the wall that may or may not have anything inside. ❝ yes, of course. i just need to- ❞ his fingers brushed against something wooden and thin. holding his breath (with anticipation and because the gas had become too much) he pulled it toward him and the exit door finally swung open. he laughed and turned to roselyn triumphantly as the green gas began to dissipate. ❝ and we live to fight another... five minutes, at the very least! ❞
