"Having kids is the best thing you could ever do"
Alright, I've been sitting on this powder keg for a while now, but this post just set me off:
I am sick to death of the arrogance of some parents.
Let me tell you a little bit about my experience. I'm the father of a 14 month old and for the past 7 months I have been, exclusively, a stay-at-home dad. He is my life and I would do anything for him. Taking care of him, helping to raise him, is, in fact, the greatest thing I've ever done in my life.
But that's specifically my life. Nobody else's. I wouldn't even dare to speak for my wife on this matter. It is presumptuous beyond belief to say that you, as a parent, are in any way better than those who do not have kids. It's condescending and insulting to say to those who choose not to have children and it's downright cruel to say to people who want to have children but can't.
What these arrogant parents are saying is that your pursuits, your work, your goals are not good enough if you don't have children, and if you can't have children then apparently you'll never be good enough. It's elitist bullshit and I'm sick of it.
Being a parent does not automatically make a person, in any way, superior to anybody else and stating otherwise is just flat-out wrong.
