high school has ended , and apparently so has john bender’s life . once he graduated –––– it was a surprise to them all –––– he was sure that that would be a new beginning , a start to his freedom . john would finally get away from his parents , the life they made him live , and he could start over .
turns out , jobs weren’t that easy to come by . and no job meant no money . no money meant no where to live . the landlord of his shitty new studio apartment was understanding enough , but he was behind on rent already , and he needed work . the mechanic shops in town required experience –––– real experience ; the kind you get by working professionally with cars . so even though john was good with his hands , good with automobiles , it wasn’t enough . well , how was he supposed to get experience if they wouldn’t hire him ? it’s a last resort , driving up to the flower shop he’d read about in the paper –––– DELIVERY BOY NEEDED ASAP . a crumpled up resume is in his hand ; it lacks finesse and extracurriculars , but it’s all he had . the boy –––– no , the newly found man –––– walked into the shop with low expectations , dawning the nicest clothes he owned , up to the counter where a woman waited . ‘ you’re hiring , right ? i read your article in the paper , ’
