Someone made a post about how they made GIFs of their own obscure F/O, and it reminded me that I have free will and access to all the Mummy Animated Series episodes. So, I decided to make my own obscure F/O GIFs using my favorite episodes of the series-
Epilepsy warning for the 17th GIF! Contains WAY MORE flashing lights than I remember!
Episode 1: The Awakening - the series two-parter opening
Here is his first appearance in the series; he never looks like this again- I really like this design, kinda wish they used it more, but I'm not too bothered, since I super like the other ones too.
Here is him being turned into a human man, apparently what he looked like before being mummified. They show this design more in episodes with time travel and stuff, and I super appreciate that they used it more, because I really like it.
Can't imagine why he's not more popular as a F/O-
This is, by the way, the best animated episode(s) of the series; nothing else in this show ever looks as good as this two-parter.
(That part where he blows away the scarab is making me too gay-)
This GIF right here is just eye candy, I'm sorry- They knew what they were doing, I swear-
AAAANNND back to being a mummy, except it's a new design, now!
Season 2 Episode 1-2: A New Beginning - Love this episode for multiple reasons, but mostly Imhotep and Evie's storyline
What I wouldn't give to be that mummy-
A lovely example of this series' rampant issue with keeping its own characters on-model, but also, he's so sweet to his beloved it hurts-
HE LOVES HER SO MUCH, FUCK-
Stop being so mean to him; he's trying his best for you-! (They start flirting right after this conversation)
GIRL- This man reversed death for you! How do you not realize he's infatuated with you?!
Imhotep is the kind of man that 90% of the human population would give up their first-born for. (Also Weasler just third-wheeling really hard this whole episode is hilarious to me.)
It's also somewhat important to note that Anck died after Imhotep did, so for him to know destroying Cairo would bring Anck joy, he'd have had to do research on what happened to her.
I will concede that Imhotep does have an anger problem, but I will also rebuttal that by pointing out that Imhotep has never raised a fist in anger toward people he cares about. Hell, even after Anck-su-namun betrays Imhotep, he never ends up trying to hurt her, nor does he ever say anything bad about her.
I swear, this pissed me off so bad as a kid- GIRL, do you know what subservient MEANS?! 'By my side forever' and 'The world is OURS'???He wants you as an equal, not a servant; get your head out of the sand!
She definitely only heard what she wanted to from that, Istg-
Season 2 Episode 10: Trio - I only like this episode because of Imhotep's parts, lol.
This GIF demonstrates something very interesting about Imhotep's character, imo; Imhotep never actually tries to hurt or kill people very often (Unless your name is Colin Weasler, then he'll put you into harmful situations at any opportunity). He'll threaten to harm and kill, sure, but if he can get someone out of the way without violence, he'll do it. Sometimes he'll even pause seemingly on purpose, just so they can run away or someone can stop him. And I know the Doylist explanation is that it's a kid's show, they're obviously not gonna show Imhotep ripping someone apart, but we're talking Watsonian here.
Is it weird that I think he looks hot like that? Also, that spider-thing broke open earlier in the episode and let out a bunch of baby spiders (Which is body horror as fuck and nasty), but like-... do you think if Imhotep did that while he was like this, they'd be little Imhotep-spiders, or...?
Season 2 Episode 6: Enemy of my enemy - I love this entire episode, I just think it's super neat, especially the interactions between Evie and Imhotep
See? It's so interesting! It's also very interesting to note: like I said before, Imhotep doesn't treat Evie badly at all. I mean, he gets pissed and talks shit, but given he never repeats that rhetoric before or after this episode + only says it once + the context, I feel like his talking shit is more about showboating/making a point of saying 'We are not friends' while still extending respect enough to treat her nicer than most. (Aka, he's being a fucking tsundere)
Because let's be honest, even in a kids' show, there's no reason the villain couldn't treat the hero like shit, even in a situation like that. It's also not like the show has shied away from violence towards Evie, either, and Evie is one of the O'Connells. So by all accounts, Imhotep should be treating her as badly as Colin, but... he doesn't.
Also important to note that he gives her this out, but she refuses. This out, which he certainly shouldn't be giving her, is one reason I think he's not being honest; he happily and gleefully scares people, says he's gonna kill them or maim them, but when it actually gets down to the wire, he's suddenly giving outs, throwing people aside, and hesitating. This, plus his respect for Anck before and after her betrayal (Reminder: He never says a negative thing about her, even after she betrays him.) plus the aforementioned 'he never said shit like that before or ever again' thing tells me that Imhotep only said it to piss Evie off.
My read is that he probably only said that shit because she rescued him right after this conversation happens, and he got scared of potentially getting attached. So, he decided to piss her off just to push her away.
It's not letting me post more GIFs so I'll just leave it at that, but yeah-
