15 students went home sick after getting food poisoning from the walking tacos at Kennedy High School on Oct. 10, 2016. Walking Taco day is one of the most popular served dishes. 15 student went home sick after getting food poisoning from the walking tacos.
“I think the tacos are great. Who would’ve known?” Stated Principal Charles McDonnell.
We were asked by students to go interview the cafeteria manager and see what her opinion was on this accident,
“We didn’t do anything differently, just mixed up the dish like normal.” said Ima Cooke, Cafeteria manager for 35 years.
Three kids fainted after eating the walking tacos.
The nurse’s office was lining up with kids.
“The tacos tasted great going down, just not coming back up.” said senior Linda Bilt. She went home ill.
The nurse was dispensing medication and calling parents.
Out of the 15 people that went home sick, 10 were boys and the other 5 were girls.
“Man I blew chunks all over the place.” said freshman Dingle Berry. He was one of the students that got sick and went home ill.
Mr. Mike Kuba blew a whistle when the first student fainted.
“I blew the whistle to get the kids out of the way. We needed to carry a couple down to the nurses’ office and there were people in the way of getting out.” said Facilitator Mike Kuba.
Sophomore Phillip Green said, “When that whistle went off, I thought it was a fire drill.”
Symptoms of the illness include being lightheaded, vomiting, earache, and blurry vision. If your child or anyone you know has any or all of these symptoms, make sure that they go to the doctor to see if anything is wrong or what they could do to help you get better.
“We’ll investigate what happened. We don’t want this to happen again.” said Principal Charles McDonnel.
Days later we found out what the culprit was… Lettuce. The lettuce had gone bad but it didn’t look like it was so the used it without checking the expiration date.
All of the kids that got sick are doing fine now, there are upset parents, and staff makes sure that they double check the expiration dates before serving food.
This window is literally blowing chunks
