Rainwing/Glory Headcanons!

So I was gonna draw Clay first and do everyone in the order of the books…

But artblock is a jerk and I started with Glory

So here’s my design for the Queen of the Rainwings, and headcanons for her and the tribe under the cut!

*Possible spoiler warning!

Glory:

The feathers on her ruff and down her back weren’t there when she hatched, or when she grew up under the mountain. It was only when she started sleeping under the sun that they grew in!

The sun on her hip is a representation of Sunny, who she always seemed to feel closest to and most comforted by. It started appearing unconsciously in Glory’s scale patterns once Sunny was kidnapped in Book 5, and never really left.

Deathbringer gifts Glory random flowers or pieces of silver jewelry, like the bangle on her wrist or the charm on her tail <3

The bracelet on her wrist represents her friends (the other four DoD)! A different colored bead for each friend

The pouch on her tail has a small scroll, one or two small keepsakes that the DoD managed to find in the wreckage of their old home cave, a few crafts by Kinkajou, Tamarin, and Anemone, and (don’t tell Silver) a couple leaves and treats for her :3

Rainwings:

The feathers dangling from their ruffs shed every few weeks as dragonets, but as the dragon grows older, the feathers grow longer and shed less often.

The feathers growing down their backs and on their tails are meant to symbolize growth and age. The longer a Rainwing’s feathers, the older they are!

Rainwings have retractable claws like cats; helpful when climbing trees, but can be put away when playing with dragonets or fragile sloths. <3

Rainwings don’t often wear a lot of jewelry, as it inhibits their flight and range of motion. Instead, they wear small flowers, and when necessary, loops of vines and blossoms (normally during assemblies or events)
