▶︎•၊၊||၊|။|||||။၊|။• Who is Ade? •၊၊||၊|။|||||။၊|။•◀
Here's my DR intro icymi!
Adebola Juma (born December 5, 1999), known professionally as Ade, is an American singer-songwriter and actress. She began her career as a child, starring in commercials and theater shows. She played a recurring role in the American mystery television series House of Anubis (2011-2013), a supporting role in supernatural teen drama series The Vampire Diaries (2014-2017), and went on to play her breakout role in the live-action adaptation of the 2015 mystery novel Northpass* (2017-2018). She was also confirmed to be a part of the cast for the animated superhero film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018).
She started shifting her focus to music after graduating high-school in 2017, signing with RCA Records in July that same year. Her music is primarily a fusion of pop, R&B, and Afrobeats. She released her debut single, "Revolving Door", on January 8, 2018 to critical acclaim, charting number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for ten consecutive weeks, making her the youngest artist to debut to the top of the charts. Her second single, "Messier", released months later on April 10, also topping the Billboard Hot 100 for seven consecutive weeks. She then released her debut album, the light, on April 17, initially charting number two on the Billboard Hot 100 with her lead single, "Wúrà", before climbing to the number one spot and remaining there for seventeen consecutive weeks.
Her accolades as of November 2018 include three American Music Awards, five MTV Video Music Awards, and three People's Choice Awards.
Early life and education
Ade was born in New York to a Yoruba mother and a Swahili father. Short for Adebola, her name means "crown" in Yoruba. She is an only child and grew up in Westchester. She first became interested in acting and singing in first grade when she saw her school's plays, leading to her joining her school's music-theater program. She grew up listening to various artists such as Fela Kuti, Salif Keita, Aaliyah, Destiny's Child, Beyoncé, and Whitney Houston. Her parents signed her up for vocal and dance lessons when she was eight. She was then signed up for acting lessons at age ten and took guitar lessons when she was thirteen. Her first onscreen appearance was in a Lucky Charms commercial in June 2010.
Career
2011-2017: Early beginnings
In 2011, Ade landed her first TV role for the series House of Anubis, playing supporting character, Jill Addison. After the show wrapped up production in 2012, she played the recurring role of Nicole Merritt on the teen drama The Vampire Diaries until it concluded in 2017. That same year, she starred as supporting character, Monique Holmes, in the mystery series Northpass. In contrast to her previous roles, her portrayal of the enigmatic Monique was more quiet and subtle, garnering praise from audiences and critics alike for her versatility. Once filming was complete, she started focusing on her music career, starting with releasing song covers on her YouTube channel until she was discovered by RCA Records, signing with them in July that same year.
2018: the light
On January 23, 2018, Ade released her debut single, "Revolving Door", reaching critical acclaim within the first two weeks. It reached 1 million streams on Spotify on January 28 and then quickly reached over 10 million on February 6. The song initially charted on the US Billboard Hot 200 before climbing up to number one, gaining over five million more streams each day and subsequently topping the charts in various other countries. Ade expressed in an interview that "While I did want the song to do well, obviously, I didn't expect it to be this big. In such a short span of time…I became known… I'm still processing it."
On April 10, 2018, Ade released her follow-up single, "Messier", which debuted at number four on the Billboard Hot 100 before rising to the top on April 15. Her debut studio album, the light, released a week later on April 17 to critical acclaim. Critics praised the young artist's authenticity and her ability to create unique melodies with traditional African instrumentals, with Variety calling her "one of Gen Z's most outstanding artists". the light debuted at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 and stayed at the spot for seventeen weeks. Time would name her Entertainer of the Year on April 26. She announced in an Instagram post on July 19, 2018, that her debut concert tour for the album would begin on March 14, 2019 and end on June 20, 2019; it'll include stops in the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, Africa, South America, and Australia.
Artistry
Influences
Ade has explicitly named Fela Kuti, Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Aaliyah as her main inspirations. She has sampled Fela Kuti in particular on three tracks, "Wúrà", "Run for the Hills", and "greenlight". Stating that she was a "proud member of the Beyhive", Ade also expressed admiration for Beyoncé's songwriting and vocal performance, saying, "I've always loved her experimental sounds and reinventions… Her voice is the strongest I've ever heard in music and I want to achieve something similar." On a podcast, she also explained how she wanted to "push genre boundaries" in a manner similar to Aaliyah's.
Music style
Ade's music primarily incorporates a mixture of R&B, pop, and Afrobeats with elements of hip-hop. She combines pop and R&B structures to create a sound blended with Western and African instrumentals and rhythms. Ade has stated in an interview that she wants to tell stories with her music, with the light focusing on identity and purpose.

backstory ── .✦
I started playing soccer at 6 years old. Shoei would talk about how fun it was to play and score goals, which made me want to play. We'd often practice together or play with the other kids in the neighborhood. I played soccer on school teams all through primary, junior high, and high school. I was the best player on my team all those years. I received a number of offers from universities upon graduating from junior high, but I turned them all down because I wanted to focus on school so I could become a physiologist. However, I received an offer from Blue Lock. Shoei told me about it, so I knew what it was, but I didn't know why I got the offer because the project was seemingly only for men's soccer. I went anyway to see what it was about. Turns out, Ego is a very greedy man and doesn't care about gender; he just needs a goated striker. He was only making one exception for a woman to join the men's team, so me and a bunch of other girls competed against each other. I ended up on top and was moved to Wildcard, which Kunigami joined after. I'm introduced during the Blue Lock Eleven tryouts as one of the top 6 and make it onto the team against U-20 Japan (replacing Shidou because Aiku made the deal earlier on)
trivia ── .✦
My 'weapons' are adaptability, dead calm, and side shot. I can adapt to any play style in a matter of seconds, keep a clear mind at all times, and always shoot an accurate and powerful shot from the sidelines
With my adaptability comes game chemistry with any and all teammates—doesn’t matter how uncooperative they are, I can play in harmony with anyone
My favorite season is winter cuz I love snow
If I'm playing against someone who practically towers over me (Gagamaru cough cough) I almost always nutmeg them cuz it's easier to just slip past them like that
finished reading blue lock and finally decided on my s/o. kaiser you poor baby :(
