Hey! Stray thought of mine was on how ‘running away to join the circus’ is a massive cliche, which led me to thinking about your KH AUs, but for it to work you would need someone to come back from running away to the circus. Somehow I connected that with Mallverse’s Vanitas, so maybe he ran away somewhere but ended up being very disillusioned and came back, and his grumpiness eventually turned him into an a*hole. It would also explain when Ven would be reluctant to go travelling (before Sora encouraged him) because he had seen what had happened to Vanitas. Just a thought, and do with it what you will, but I found the mental image of Vanitas in a clown suit hilarious so I thought I’d share. What do you think?
I guess I’d say I feel you on everything except the literal circus thing. I’m not very savvy about BBS but I’ve absorbed some info on it via my dash, which is of course skewed by the fact that they’re usually opinion posts. One thing I picked up about Vanitas that I decided to run with is a complaint that he seems too flat as a villain. He has one simplistic motivation, which is essentially “merge with Ven to make the X-blade because I am evil / it’ll be awesome / something like that.” So Mallverse Vanitas is similarly one-note in that he had some kind of large aspiration, but when he failed to achieve it right off the bat, he became bitter and went home because bitching about how life is unfair is a lot easier than doing honest work. So I can see him dropping out of high school to, idk be a roadie or something?? something “cool,” but it goes south so he gives up and comes home and has nothing but horror stories about the wide world and the people who populate it, because if he’s going to be a miserable failure stuck in one place, he may as well have company. Which gives Ventus a reason to be hesitant, yeah. But then he goes for it and takes to it like a fish in water or whatever that saying is, and now he’s on a five-year mission to explore new life and new civilizations and you know the rest. Which of course makes Vanitas even more bitter than before.
