I'd love prompt 91 if you haven't done one for it yet, please?
[not taking any more but from this prompt list - “Why are you doing this?” mixed with anonymous prompt “I made you some hot chocolate.”] [all my ficlets]
Dean won’t be a bumbling fool this time.
This time he’ll be smooth around Cas.
Still, his hands are shaking a little around one of the cafe’s huge mugs as he carries it to the couch where Cas always sits.
“Hey, Cas,” Dean says, smiling.
“Hello, Dean,” Cas says, smiling back. “How are you?”
“Doin’ pretty good. I, uh. Made you some hot chocolate. I know you’re a coffee guy but this is a house recipe I’ve been playing with and I just thought you might like it so —” Dean realizes he’s rambling like an idiot and cuts himself off, just holding the mug out to Cas.
Cas looks surprised, takes the mug like it’s a delicate gift. “Thank you. How much do I owe you?”
“What? Nothing, dude. You didn’t even order it.” Frowning a bit, Dean says, “You don’t have to drink it if you don’t like it. I won’t be offended.” He won’t be offended, but he will be a little heartbroken, as stupid as it is. He’s been bringing Cas treats for months and so far it seems like Cas has liked everything.
“Thank you,” Cas repeats. “I don’t want to take advantage of your kindness.”
Dean shrugs. “It’s nothing, man. What good is it owning the place if I can’t give away shit when I want to?”
“You bring me things so often,” Cas says, tilting his head. “May I ask why you’re doing this? Am I really such a good taste-tester?”
Dean blushes hot. He thought surely Cas knew why — he’s had a disgusting crush on Cas since the first day he came into the cafe — but apparently his fumbling attempts at flirting have been in vain. “You’re a pretty good taste-tester,” Dean says, looking down.
“I’m not very good with people,” Cas says slowly, “but I notice you’re not bringing anyone else hot chocolate.”
“Nah,” Dean says, flashing Cas a grin, though it feels a little hollow. “If they want hot chocolate, they can pay for it.”
Cas smiles back and then takes a deep breath. “I hope this isn’t too forward, but I don’t think my attempts at flirting are coming through. Would you like to go out with me sometime?”
Dean can’t help but laugh. “Cas, I’ve been flirting with you, apparently also unsuccessfully.”
“I’ll be out of here at six.”
Cas’s smile grows, gorgeous and bright. “I’ll see you then.”
