I’d like to take a moment to say that Jonathan M. Shiff is an absolute creative genius. It is rare to see a show have such a massive impact that, almost a decade after it has finished, there are people still fact-stripping it and having discussions about it. I remember telling him about five years ago that he struck gold with his idea, since even then people were begging him for a season four. It must be quite a problem to constantly be receiving questions about “h2o season 4″, but I think it’s a good problem to have. It means the idea was a success. I do hope he reboots H2O: Just Add Water, or does something with it. The show was such a big part of my childhood.

I may have gone off the deep end...

I’ve been talking about the rumored H2O revival with someone else, and that got me thinking about whether or not this could actually happen. So, I took to the most reliable place for answers, the Australian trademark office. The reason I went searching there is because companies that produce something, especially if it has a logo on it, need to file for a trademark license in order to protect that logo. If you can find the trademark license, you can figure out a lot about what’s going on in a company. That and job listings. Anyway, I checked JMSP’s trademark licenses for H2O and there’s one that’s still active. However, that doesn’t really mean anything because from my understanding, if you’re going to renew an intellectual property (the show) you have to also renew the license. So, even with an active trademark license there should still be a renewal. According to the active H2O trademark filing date, it was filed 3 months prior to the release date of the show, and it has no renewal yet. The H2O revival rumor is just a rumor, until either Jonathan confirms or we see a trademark renewal filing.
