Happy #RhinoFriday shout out from our friends at @bluenomads ・・・ There is a very special place in Uganda - Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary - that is not only a success story but also an example of extraordinary people that dedicate themselves to conservation. In 1983 both black rhinos and northern white rhinos were declared extinct throughout Uganda. With the goal of repopulate wild rhinos in Uganda, Rhino Fund Uganda created the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary in 1997 with the first 6 southern white rhinos being translocated in 2005. Since then the rhinos have been thriving in the sanctuary reaching today a population of 30. The rhinos are watched 24h by brave rangers and this has dictated the success of this initiative.
