Until a few years ago I always thought this was Grant Green’s first album. He was my Father’s favorite guitarist, so naturally I was always familiar with his music. I can’t remember if my Pops had this album or not, but the minute I heard Grant’s opening on “Miss Ann’s Tempo” I immediately knew why he loved him so much. This classic was recorded in January 1961 at the Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey and features Green on guitar, Ben Dixon on drums and Baby Face Willette on organ. This is a Blue Note Records 80th Anniversary reissue mastered by the legendary Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio and as usual he did a superb job. The vinyl is very clean and quiet and the music sounds like they are right in my living room. It’s amazing you can get this classic on Amazon still. The only problem I have is the overall packaging. If they gave this album the love they give to their Tone Poet Series especially if they upgraded the covers. And the paper sleeves they put the vinyl in can only harm the vinyl. @bluenoterecords you need to UPGRADE your process a little. I know you want to keep the price down, but dang paper sleeves in 2020.
