00:00:00 [ whoops my finger slipped ]

"I don't understand, what does it mean?" The little boy asked, tilting his head at the strange clock that ran across his wrist. His mother smiled down at it, tracing her fingers along the digits there.
"It is a clock," she told him. He wrinkled his nose. "I can see that, Ama. What is it for?"
She laughed, leaning over to kiss his scrunched nose. "It counts down the moments until you meet your soul mate," she explained, gently smoothing his hair fondly. "It will turn to zero at the moment you meet your soul mate, just as it did for your Papa and I."
He looked down at his little wrist. "Oh. That is a long time away."
"Yes, my son. A very long time indeed."

He had stopped looking at the stupid counter on his arm a long time ago. Being immortal, the number seemed endless, as if it would never roll over. Relationships themselves seemed so pointless. If he was supposed to meet his soul mate someday, what was the sense in courting any one else? It was just a waste of time.

He wished he could rub it off, erase it some how. Centuries had passed and yet the timer haunted him. He was convinced he was destined to be alone.

He did not need love. He did not need anyone but himself.

He was fine alone. He'd been alone for so long after all.

Alone was good.
37:12:32
Alone was best.
4:02:25
Alone.

Blue eyes met blue as their counters flashed in sync. A small smile spread across the other man's face, though it couldn't mask the nervousness in his eyes. "Hi," he said softly, his voice barely more than a breath.
"Hi," Thor said in return.
Perhaps alone wouldn't be best after all.
