Okay so I saw this show I think it is a show. But what is it? With a basketball player and fancy man in a suit. I would send a link but no links allowed. Just wondering what this show is I saw it a few times on my dash just trying to see if it is a show or not. Just looks good and I need a new show to watch.

Ah boy oh boy. Let me tell you about the glory that is Jude and Zero. Be warned, though, it’s gonna be long. I only started watching their storyline yesterday and I could already yell about these two human disasters for hours.

You are correct in assuming it’s a show. It’s called Hit The Floor and is currently in its third season. It’s about a fictional L.A. basketball team and also their cheerleading team.

I’m gonna be honest with you, the show imho isn’t that good outside the Jude/Zero storyline (although to be fair, I watched like one episode in its entirety and then decided to just skip to the interesting parts, so it might be better than I know). It’s a lot of soap-opera-ish unnecessary drama, I think, but I gotta say, the focus of the show being what it is, it has tons of women and tons of POCs, and now also amazing LGBT representation, so that’s nice. Also, the dance choreographies I’ve seen so far are all ace but I can’t be arsed to watch all of it anyway.

Anyway, if like me, you’re only interested in the gay, don’t bother starting with season 1 - both Jude and Zero are only introduced in episode 2x02, I think, and their relationship only kicks off at the end of 2x08 (Zero also spends most of his episodes before starting his thing with Jude banging one of the female dancers, which ends terribly, jsyk), so basically that’s when I started watching every scene in which they appear together.

The basics are this: Zero is a new basketball player for the L.A. devils, and Jude is his Junior Agent at first and make shis way up to being in a management position for the club. Zero is bisexual (or pan, who knows, but he is very open about enjoying both ladies and gents) and Jude is gay. They both have Issues, capital I, and are basically polar opposites, but they fall in love anyway.

That’s technically all you need to know, but if you feel like reading about me yelling about two adorable idiots, you’ll find that under the cut.

Gosh, I have so many feelings about them already.

Can I just.....look, I don’t think this show is particularly deep or has any important message or, like, an intricate narrative structure or shit, but they are set up so beautifully? Like, they both essentially have the same backstory and developed into completely opposite directions and it’s so great.

Like, they both obviously have abandonment issues. We don’t know all that much about Zero outside of the persona he puts on in front of people (and the fact that he is kind of a scheming, manipulative asshole, like basically everyone else on the show), but we do know his biological parents gave him up for adoption and the foster family only cared about collecting a cheque, and not about him. (This is something he tells Jude, when he is still insisting they are not even together, and he doesn’t allow things to go deep, ever. Oh boy, you are so oblivious, and you got it so bad).

As a consequence, Zero doesn’t do relationships. Ever. He keeps things casual. Still not sure whether he was kinda infatuated with Jelena or whether he was just attracted to her because she is mildly terrifying. (Considering his reaction when he found out Jude was going to be his boss, the latter might be a thing ^^). Anyway. Zero doesn’t do relationships. He does casual.

(And then, in the span of like, two episodes, seems to basically move into Jude’s place, because that’s where we always see them together. He showers at Jude’s place when Jude isn’t even home and isn’t even expecting him. He lounges on Jude’s sofa in his boxers eating cereal. DUDE. This is not casual. Stop insisting you are not dating him. You are dating him so hard, even without taking him on actual dates.You are a goner)

On the other side, we have Jude. Jude’s dad is the owner of the basketball club, and he is an asshole who basically refuses to acknowledge he has a son and insists Jude call him by his first name instead of “dad”. Jude does everything to try and please his dad (and everyone around him, basically). He’s a precious cinnamon roll and should be protected. Seriously, someone hug this boy.

Understandably, his father abandoning his family and being a dick has screwed Jude up. He is very very high strung. He is desperate to please and starving for affection and also often awkward with people, and he has, like, zero chill (ha!). Negative chill.

Jude does not do casual. Jude wants very very much to be loved. Where Zero has basically given up on trying to actually genuinely connect with people, Jude reaches out to people all the time. It’s actually one of the most heartbreaking scenes when he tells Jude “I keep reaching out to people. To you, to Oscar..I just wish someone would reach back.” MY HEART!!1!

Anyway, this is where the major conflict in their relationship comes from. Zero wants to keep it simple (he does not manage to keep it simple). Jude wants a real relationship (Zero is not ready to give him that). I don’t think the problem really lies with Zero not being out or being afraid to be out (he’s certainly more than comfortable with his sexuality) as the show frames it for a bit, but rather Zero’s problem with having to admit he actually, you know, cares.

But I’m so happy for them now??!! Like, they have come so far in such a few episodes?!?! Jude being so far gone on Zero but also standing his ground and standing up for himself and refusing to be a side thing for once? And Zero being so in love with him and so afraid of losing him for good that he overcomes his fears and literally kisses him in front of everyone? (also HIS FACE when Lucas told him about having slept with Jude, I thought he was gonna cry, and then Lucas being an asshole about Jude I swear he was like 0,1 seconds away from punching him in the dick for saying bad things about Jude I loved it)

Idk I feel like things from now on could be glorious, just look at the promo for the next episodes, Zero literally dropping the mic as his statement (OMG ZERO YOU DRAMA QUEEN) and Jude already being 100% done with this dumb boy he loves I HOPE IT’S GONNA BE AMAZING AND THEY WILL BE HAPPY FOREVER
