Nathan Lyon took four wickets as Australia thrashed New Zealand by 247 runs to win the second Test at Melbourne and the series on Sunday with a battling century from opener Tom Blundell proving futile.

The Black Caps, chasing a massive 488 to win, were in serious trouble after a fiery James Pattinson ripped through the top order to leave them reeling at 38 for three.

#778 Cummins and co torment NZ to a huge defeat; SA beat England in a close first test;Quinton, Van Der Dussen, Rabada and Nortje shine for SA; Spurs held in EPL and Leicester City back to winning ways and more..:-)

NZ didn’t show any fight in first innings batting as Cummins and co rattled them for just 148. Cummins grabbed 5-fer. Australia declared at 168-5 in 2nd innings giving NZ a target of 488.  Latham and Blundell started off well as they played Starc and Cummins well. Just before 3 overs from Pattinson turned the match. He grabbed 3 wickets including that of Williamson and Taylor. Williamson tour has been poor as he was dismissed for a duck. Baring 2nd innings century against England, his form has been poor post World cup.  Blundell and Nicholls had a 54 run stand before Lyon dismissed the later. NZ 89-4. Only Blundell showed resistance who scored a good century. NZ were dismissed for 240 in 2nd inning and lost the match by 247 runs. NZ have hardly shown any fight in this test series which is sorry to see. Considering they are 2nd ranked team, it  has been a shocker.

SA started day 3 brilliantly. Van der Dussen and Nortje had 91 run stand to take SA lead past 250. Archer’s 5-fer helped England restrict SA lead to 375.  It was a huge mountain to climb for England. But they started off well. Burns and Sibley had a 92 run stand which gave England a great platform. England ended day 3 at 121-1. Burns who has been most consistent player of England this year was unbeaten at 77. Would 2019 end with another Stokes special??  Day 4 started of well for SA as Nortje dismissed Burns for 84 with a short ball. England 139-1. Pretorius trapped Denly soon after. England 158-3. Root and Stokes took England to lunch at 171-3. Stage was set for England stars to grab a famous victory. These had to do bulk of the scoring but they had a fantastic platform laid. These 2 took England past 200. With 170 odd needed with 7 wickets in hand, hopes raised in England dressing room. That’s when Maharaj turned the match. He castled Stokes for 14. England 204-4. Post there was a collapse which is pretty common to see in England test cricket. Bairstow and Root fell soon after. Root played good for his 48 but played a ball which he could have left. England 232-6.  Rabada then ripped apart England tail. England were dismissed for 268. SA won the match by 107 runs. Rabada grabbed 4 wickets. Maharaj and Nortje supported well too. SA have won a test match after having lost 4 of last 5 matches ( drew the other one).  Difference between 2 sides was Quinton’s 2 knocks and Philander’s contribution with the bat too.

In EPL, Spurs were held to a 2-2 draw by Norwich city. Leicester City regain form after losing to City and Livcerpool in last 2 matches. They beat West Ham 2-1.
