Everything you can do tonight is highly derivative
The thing is, most things are in this century. Anyways, ICD 9 is playing at the M-Room with Generally Unpleasant Feelings tonight. ICD9 is a local band that plays punk music but is referencing proto-punk so heavily that a lesser band would make it seem campily parody-ish. Their soundcloud informs me that the core members of the band met at a Damned concert at the TLA in 2009, if you’re picking up what I’m putting down. They manage to be pretty cool though and I’m definitely recommending this. The show starts at 9 and it’s $8. The m room is on the north side of girard in between front and frankford. If punk sometimes strives too hard to mimic it’s original sounds, hip-hop has ventured so fucking far as to be unrecognizable. This BLUNT FANG/PHONOGRAPHIQ/LIL MERICA show tonight at the Barbary is showcasing hip hop that’s in opposition or contrast to what’s happening in the mainstream. It starts at 10 and costs $5. Magic Death Sounds is presenting this show, and if you haven’t heard about their record label/production company, they’re really worth looking into, doing some interesting stuff. The facebook write up for this event is very compelling, and here it is: https://www.facebook.com/events/614760775219475/?ref=2 Oh yeah, the Barbary is on frankford just north of Delaware ave.
MP3: Blunt Fang "400"
With the help from a little article I heard the most interesting, yet truthful rendition about the troubled pasts of African-Americans by Blunt Fang. It's the only song of his I somewhat understand where he's coming from at the moment, but I'm all for a challenge.
