Keeper of the Lost Cities AU where Telepathy is actually forbidden and Pyrokinetics is like the Elves' golden child
Somewhere along the way telepathy had some really bad incident (or several, considering the ability) and the Council forbade it. Likewise, pyrokinetics was really handy early-game and so it's been pretty favored ever since (fire literally emits light)
For extra points, make one of the Council members secretly a telepath but they're also a polygot so they're allowed to be on the Council if they do mind-breakages/probes for them
Sophie would probably be be a pyrokinetic now and part of me wants to believe that the black swan is slightly more antagonistic(lets be honest they're like 2 steps away from a rebellion) and that Fintan could be a viable mentor haha
