studying abroad had always been a distant dream for lucie. her fear of leaving her mother kept her from traveling, but she’d sacrificed all the money she had and started fighting off her anxieties when blair was in the picture, because that girl was something else. she was worth getting over her little fears. the thought of meeting her in person had given her the strength to push through and give her best work to the university in france. blair had been her number one -- the person who encouraged her to keep going when she was sure that there was no point in it. it was only natural that their break up sent lucie through a whirlwind of emotions. what had she done wrong? what could she have done better? was there somebody else? going to france seemed like a terrible idea after all the rigmarole, but she couldn’t just not go. that would complicate things further, and besides, this could be an endeavor that changed her life whether she saw blair or not. however, that was a whole other story when blair was standing one foot in front of her. the two had exchanged nervous glances, probably rubbed shoulders, and interacted in almost every way but directly. seeing the woman in person made goosebumps rise all over. instinctively, she ran a hand through her hair and took her lesser lip between her teeth. “i -- i don’t really know what to say right now,” lucie breathed a nervous laugh. “blair...” the name danced off her lips like a secret she’d been forbidden to tell for a year. they stood in the middle of the coffee shop, only the whirring of the espresso machine filling her ears. she could only pray that blair’s voice would sound sweeter.
