She hadn’t expected to see Gabriel here. Sure, she supposed that anyone could end up here, but she didn’t expect him to be daring type to tumble into this sort of accident. Anything was possible, apparently. Meredith took one last drag on her cigarette before tossing it into a bin. One of the holier-than-though residents had taken a solid five minutes to chew on her about just leaving butts in places. This world seemed to be uptight about the little things, that’s the main thing she’d concluded.

Leisurely, she approached him. It wasn’t like she was afraid she’d spook him, approaching fast and starting in on a casual conversation. It was just that either this was a stranger- what had made her think of that, she was unsure- or her friend. Neither situation was something that had to be acted on right that moment.

instead of jacbo and robert fighting over kathryn, robert was able to see a lot farther into the future, predicting his death. this left jacob to stay with them as the triad instead of turning to godfrey and setting up kathryn’s death. robert stepped aside, foreseeing his death, and let the other two be together. though it didn’t last long.

BACKGROUND…

Meredith had a rocky childhood, through and through. Her mother tried her best, but there was only so much that a mother as young as hers could do. After her mother was kicked out of her home, she moved herself and Meredith to Brooklyn, New York. They stayed with family until Meredith was two, and then they moved in with another young mother and her daughter, Winifred.

The four of them lived together throughout most of the girls elementary school years, and they grew up feeling like siblings. Meredith’s mother had gotten her GED and completed a Polysomnography program at Kingsborough Community College. It worked out well for many years, until both mothers were stable enough to live apart from one another.

By the time Meredith got into high school, her mother nearly smothered her. Brynne was terrified of Meredith making the same mistakes as she had, and pushed Meredith to join multiple extracurriculars, advanced level classes, and other soul sucking things she had no desire to do.

Instead, she spent time with the slacker crowd at her high school. Between her mother, her aunt, Freddie, and her friends, Meredith didn’t feel like she had to aspire to be more than anything, and was content to coast to where life would lead her.

Unfortunately, she didn’t coast to college applications or a breakthrough talent. Within one week, the world was being destroyed by a virus known as Shanti. All around her, the little support network she had built up slowly died off until it was just her and her mother.

After the worst of the outbreak had passed over, the Horowitz’s were forced into Quarantine, where eventually her mother passed. The rumor was that Fortis was the one responsible for the outbreak, and after Meredith had come to that conclusion herself, she forcibly removed herself from all medical trials.

She’s not sure who to trust, or what to think. The only things she does know that it’s her and her roommate, Judi Sadim, and maybe a few friends from Quarantine.

There was too much noise in this world. Even the times she had fooled herself into believing the world was normal- that everyone wasn’t dead or dying- the noise had never been this loud, this vibrant.

Even more, there were so many people, and things had changed so much. It was still Queens, but the wearing looked different than she imagined. This wasn’t her childhood abode, there were families that she wouldn’t imagine there. Maybe her brain had tried to create a fake world just to prove that nothing would get better again. But the noise was too vibrant, too clear, for this to be an illusion. Especially one of her own creation.

Gun held low, Meredith ducked into an alley. She had to admit, it had been impressive on the way over to her childhood neighborhood. The detail of life going on at every corner. Most definitely real. Even if she managed to hold this large of an illusion for as long as this one would have been going on, there was too much detail.

Kids were walking with their parents, business people scurried on the streets as if their world were ending today. Little did they know that after it did end, things tended to move slower. Somewhere between leisure and survival.

Meredith slid the gun in her waistband. She stalked down the alley, trying to open doors as she did so. It seemed like people actually cared enough to lock doors here, which would be hilarious if it weren’t infuriating. Giving up on that venture, she took a cigarette from her case, and stood at the opening of the alley, lighting up and staring at the people staring back at her.

She knew it was a bad habit, but if something were going to kill her, she’d rather it not be a dinky virus. She took in her surroundings, the noises, the smells. It was the New York that should have been. The only question she supposed was left was what else was here? Who else was here?

She tossed the butt to the ground, gaining some dirty looks that were silenced with a hard glare, and began to walk aimlessly with the foot traffic. She supposed that if it felt right, she ought not fight it. If it felt right, then she’d end up right where she needed to be.

Instead of running after attacking her foster father with her power, Jordan tried to explain the situation to her foster mother. She was enraged and stabbed her in the side with a knife, leaving Jordan to die.

She managed to get herself to a hospital where the news of the Shanti virus spread. She escaped to New York while people began being quarantined, hiding out in an abandoned apartment. She does everything she can to avoid the virus, while trying to keep her powers hidden, but she’s left leading a very solitary life.

at what point did your alter ego diverge from the main world ego?

instead of running away from her family after her parents died, jenny’s family was killed by the shanti virus. however, that didn’t stop her from being abused before the rest of her family died. when jenny turned 18, finally being of legal age, she inherited a little bit of money from her family’s estates. it was enough to get her out of the country and to start her own business. she owns a restaurant and uses it to launder money and find some hits in the city. most of her targets are continuance members, but she doesn’t discriminate and has occasionally killed fortis members and even some random people.

jenny lives in the bronx, saving up all the money from her restaurant and other business. she doesn’t really have a need to spend it except on weapons. she also doesn’t usually cook for the restaurant unless it’s a target whom she gave a “free pass” to and is poisoning them. the regular cooks are some refugees and came to the states with her.

Finally. Claire had found him. She’d been hunting Henry down for almost a year. Ever since he released the virus. This time, Claire sure as hell was determined not to lose him or let Henry get away. He was the cause of so many people’s deaths that she cared about. Family. Her father, Claude, might not have approved of her actions, but she didn’t care. It wasn’t his decision and he wasn’t going to run her life.

Grinning darkly, she pulled the gun out and placed the barrel to the back of his head. “Bang. You’re dead now, Henry Escott. Or at least--you would be if Continuance didn’t want you so badly.” She walked around him, dragging the gun along his head until Claire was pointing it right between the eyes. “Guess you’re lucky. Today. But--”

She grinned even wider, biting her bottom lip. “They didn’t say I wasn’t allowed to torment you a little. Just that you had to be alive.” Claire pouted, canting her head to the side. “I was so looking forward to killing you, Henry. Maybe they’ll let me when they’re done with you.”
