In the wake of the murders of Ahmaud Arbery in February of this year and George Floyd on Monday, I've been thinking a lot about the ways that I can be an ally to black people. As someone who considers themself and artist-activist, it's really important to me that I use my voice to support people in marginalized communities that I am a part of, as well as those I do not belong to. I am a white-passing mexican-american person. A man from the city I grew up in, Minneapolis, MN, was murdered by police on Monday, May 25th. Black and indigenous people of color are asking for our support and we need to show up for them.
For these reasons, I will be making a series of posts on my IG account (@bo.genis) describing direct actions you can take to help the #BlackLivesMatter movement in Minneapolis.
