(In regards to the "Metonic cafe AU" post-- since my comment was..- too long, I think?--- and I don't particularly feel like splitting it into multiple parts, so I am putting it here instead.)
You know how long I've been waiting for someone to FINALLY make a cafe AU???- there has been…-- exactly one Metonic cafe AU (that I know of) thus far and that was Not Enough for me.
I imagine Metal doesn't even WANT to serve Sonic at first- this is his little haven away from everything, no commands, no obligation- something entirely made for his own sake…
..- and here Sonic is, interrupting it!
As for how Sonic even found out about it-- maybe he spots Amy acting/talking suspiciously?--- declining a surprisingly amount of hangout requests/plans and sneaking off to who-knows-where?
His first instinct is to ask what's up- but when Amy uncharacteristically clams ups… Fearing the worst, the hedgehog decides to do some sleuthing- eventually ending up at Metal's cafe.
Amy, obviously, wasn't in any danger-- she just didn't want Sonic finding the cafe because…--- well- come on, it's Metal and Sonic!-- you'd have an easier time mixing oil with water!
Sonic doesn't believe his friend's a liar-- but he also knows about Amy's tendency of (trying to) redeem villains- so he's not convinced when she tries placating him.

Doesn't help that Metal's (not so kindly) interjecting every five seconds…
So, Sonic starts hanging around often- entirely sure that Metal's up to something.
Metal isn't, the badnik knows he isn't-- and it irritates him to no end that Sonic refuses to let him make drinks and pastries in peace.

He initially tries to drive Sonic out- bans him from the cafe (doesn't work, Sonic just waltz right in regardless), actively avoids taking his order--
-at one point Metal attempts to literally tune him out.
It quickly puts a strain on the "quiet yet lively" atmosphere that Metal worked so hard to build. The second he sees their bickering affect his customers moods- Metal cracks and finally decides to entertain Sonic's nonsense.
Metal will answer his questions- and take his orders-- so long no "scenes" are made.
He puts his best foot forward- because surely if his rival sees the sheer quality of his product, there'll be no reason for the hedghehog to question his business' legitimicy.

Also, if we have Cubot pestering Metal-- then we gotta have Orbot pestering Sonic!
OMG THIS IS SUCH A GOOD TAKE FOR A CAFE AU.
you have come to me a day too late unfortunately. but WOW this is making me squeal and smile because YES they absolutely do not get along and Amy knows that and knew she absolutely had to separate them. Sonic is a busybody tho, bros got his nose in everything and of course he finds out about Metal’s cafe. Metal being absolutely irritated with Sonic’s presence is SO on brand and attempting to ban him??? asdfghjkl perfect!!
several things you mentioned are definitely already in my cafe au. but there's also a stark difference to how Sonic finds the place and how their interactions take place. in a more funny way, I think??? I like writing humor a lot so it'll definitely show!!
