WIP Dr. Oetkers Schulkochbuch
Part IV board preparation
The cover for this book is made of two layers of binders board. The main board will be 1mm thick and the on with the cut out app. 0,5 - 0,7mm. I could just glue the copy of the original cover to the finished book, but considering the qualities of laser printed pictures and how cook books are used in general, I decided for an inlay. With the paper set back the edges of the printed paper are protected and the surface will suffer less wear from being shoved around on a table.
I keep the cut out parts and cut them 2mm shorter in length and width for later use to press down the cloth in receding areas of the cover. For now both covers are not cut to size yet. The boards often drift a little when gluing both parts together or extruding glue gives a rough edge. With the boards being a bit larger than I need them, I can just cut them flush. The markings are just to make sure both pictures are well centered. Here I also aimed for the head of the logo to be at the same height to create a symmetry between back and front I could have just gone with the original placing, but well, the boards were already made when I really looked at that and I didn’t feel like wasting the materials I’ve already invested.
