I'm alone today at the kennel, which isn't a big deal because we only have 4 dogs right now. However, my coworker was alone all day yesterday and it was much busier. My boss isn't learning; she's gonna lose all her experienced staff.

Still fighting a migraine. And depression. This is Bella. I've known her since she was a puppy. This is the last time I will ever walk her. 😢

Have I mentioned I hate holidays?

Last night emphasized in a whole new way why I'm glad I put in my two weeks, and it has nothing to do with my boss. I even felt sorry for her yesterday, despite how nasty she has been. We had two dogs (out of 36) that were so sick she had to take them to the ER vet. She was literally at the vet with the first one when my co-worker and I texted her to let her know another wasn't doing well. Neither are connected and they are on opposite sides of the kennel, so I'm 99% sure it's nothing contagious. I believe it's just the stress of the holiday craziness that brings on illnesses, especially for sensitive dogs. The first dog came back with antibiotics and meds for her tummy (gastroenteritis). I don't know about the second one yet, as my boss left with that dog just as we were leaving at 9 last night. I worry, though, as I feel it was far more serious. Possibly bloat or (my worst nightmare) a splenic tumor. I can still smell her bloody vomit. She's a bluetick like my boy (pictured).

I'm not gonna lie, after 30 years of taking care of other people's animals, I am so ready to get out. I just want to take care of my own from now on.

At the boarding kennel I was doing walks the other day and before taking out this 1yo rottie I was warned that he's strong and a puller so I prepared myself but he actually walked fine and the true hardest walk of the day was this strong af beagle that NEEDED to go really fast while her sister, a timid border collie, slowly waddled behind so I felt like jesus on the cross the entire walk, going sideways with my arms spread out either side lol

Tech: ...and in this room we have the small dog lofts, which are $cheaper price per night than the larger dens, and what we recommend for little ones like yours-

New client: *interrupting* Oh no, I don't feel comfortable with her being in here, it looks like a puppy store! What if someone came and adopted her?!

Tech: ...Ma'am we're a boarding kennel, we would never adopt your dog out to someone else. That would be stealing. Are you sure you want her in a $more expensive per night den? There are big dogs in the den hall and it can be really loud, I think she'd be happier in the loft room.

New Client: Well, okay, if she'll be happier that's alright then.

*tech finishes tour and gets the client's stay booked, client seems happy and is about to leave when she turns back to counter*

New client: You promise no one will come in and adopt her?
