Boat time.
(Do we want sea pics or mountain pics or some third option?)
Jack Crawford
'He became famous in 1797 at the Battle of Camperdown when the Venerable’s mast was hit, causing the Admiral’s flag to fall – the customary sign of surrender. Crawford picked up the flag and, under heavy fire, which caused him facial injuries, climbed the broken mast and nailed the colours to it with a marlin spike.
'By the 1860s, as this book’s cover shows, Crawford was made over into a beautiful example of British manliness. Locks blowing in the wind, pretty face adorned by whiskers, his shirt provocatively revealing a muscular chest and shoulder, he practically pole-dances around the mast depicted in front of a Union Jack.'
