Justin Orvis Steimer “Piacere” Oil, ink, and acrylic on 1940s boat sail
Steimer, (born 1981), earned his BFA in painting from the University of Colorado in 2004. He made his museum debut in 2016 at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe. Steimer is a co-founder of the CTG Collective.
Justin Orvis Steimer’s work has been developed as a series of responses to invisible sources that have been excluded from scientific versions of reality. With freehand lines and forms he transposes space, time, sound and presence to offer a channeled truth. He makes canvases from materials found in the places he renders, or given to him by the subjects of his portraits; the pre-existing color, texture and geometry affecting the finished result. https://catincatabacaru.com/artists/justin-orvis-steimer#bio
Justin Orvis Steimer “union square (7.4.16.44.16)” 2016 pure pigment, acrylic, and ink on boat sail 50 × 84 in
Justin Orvis Steimer translates invisible forces–metaphysical, spiritual, whatever word you are most comfortable with–into exquisite free-hand lines, forms and nearly perfect circles rendered in colors he mixes. His language connects better to the likes of Mirò, Matisse and Calder, than it does to any contemporary artist, and his paintings, often on found and gifted materials imbedded with a pre-existing energy, have been called “medicine for the home.” https://www.harpersbazaar.com/culture/art-books-music/g17887323/new-artists-2018/
