Bob Plager was uniquely St. Louis. He was us. He was ours. Since 1967 he was our signature enforcer ... the ultimate teammate ... a source of inspiration and the greatest storyteller our game has ever known. He brought us joy. Made us laugh. A lot. And he loved a parade. A father, grandfather, neighbor and friend like no other.

Listen, Bobby Plager is really important okay. I’m listening to Jamie Rivers on Blues NHL Podcast talking about how Plager can’t even watch playoff games. Rivs sees him doing this last season and goes “What are you doin, enjoy this!” And you know what that precious man said? He said “I can’t, I’m too nervous. The fans of this city have wanted this for so long and they deserve it so bad, I feel like if I watch the team and I jinx them then it’s all my fault.”

This man needs and deserves to see this team hoist the Cup.

If you grew up a Blues fan, you know how much Bobby Plager means to this team. Even if you’re a new Blues fan, you know how much Bobby Plager means to this team.

Bobby is an Original Blue - THE Original Blue. Bobby had an assist on the very first Blues goal, scored a goal later that night, and got the first Blues penalty - the first of Several.

Bobby loved Saint Louis. And he loved being a Blue. He thought us what it means to love the Blues. And he has taught every guy who had the chance to wear The Note what it meant to put that sweater on.

He liked to say that he was number five in our program but he was number one in our hears. And right now our hearts are broken.

One his jersey retirement night, Barclay’s number came down to pick his up and yesterday Barclay came down to pick up Bobby one last time.

Thank you, Bobby. For the laughter, for the stories, for the fights and the hip checks. But mostly, that you for what you have done for the Blues Organization, for the Team, and for Saint Louis. You leave a void that no will be able to fill.

You will be greatly missed.
