I see this change in shoujo mangas as well. It isn't that now all the stories are only about happy, healthy relationships, but I think the amount of works with more "positive" content has increased, like the heroines being more aware of abuse and speaking against it instead of accepting their fate, for example.

Not gonna lie, I didn't liked K9999 back then, but he grew on me and I think he's a cool character now. NEST Saga has an interesting idea and a lot of potentical plot wise, but SNK was starting to have problems at the end of it so it felt kinda rushed, a shame because it seems they had plans to make Krizalid join K', for example. Anyway, maybe if they update K9999 design for something like this twitter com/falcoon_master/status/864329687480193024 it could work!

Honestly people not liking K9999 is pretty understandable, I didn’t really care for him at first either but idk why or when my fav chara just moved from K to K9999 ( I STILL THINK ABOUT THIS I STILL DON’T KNOW HOW I EVEN LIKED HIM I DON’T PICK CHARAS I’M NOT FAMILIAR WITH AND I NEVER PLAYED NESTS SAGA SO HOW? ) I think I just liked that his existence is just there to be an asshole to everyone? The moment he was created he was all WOW HOW DARE U SUMMON ME TO CLEAN YOUR MESS but it’s ok i’m the best so I’ll clean it up for u and he’s just. So simple and loud, he doesn’t have any other motives, he just wants to do whatever he wants freely and I like that part of him! Sometimes you don’t need some overcomplicated backstory to make an interesting chara, if they have enough personality I think it’s enough!

Nests saga has a lot of interesting ideas yes! I’m sad that during 2001 SNK had major money problems ( well, tbh when do they not have money problems ) and Shinkiro had to quit bc his designs were so good!!! Bangs fist on table we could’ve had his drawing of K9999 what a missed opportunity.... Krizalid joining K would’ve been BOMB but idk how are they gonna fit him in the team since there’s only 3 people per team hmm

Back to the original question I think with a new outfit K9999 would be fine! His normal moveset with drills and guns are pretty usable? Probably needs to think of a new max desperation move and stuff but hey if Benimaru was approved I don’t believe K9999 can’t be approved! I really just don’t fancy Nameless being his replacement, he doesn’t have a personality and is a watered down Krizalid imho, at least put more effort into the poor boy??? He’s just there for the sake of being there ehhhh
