Attack on Titan and Social construction ism
These are random thought that I’ve been thinking for so long when reading Hajime Isayama’s Attack on Titan/Shingeki no Kyojin (SNK):
1. Their Weapons, and the functional uniform are really well-designed by Isayama. Reflects the ideas of how a nature challenges (Titans and walls) influence on how human developed a system of combat and military. Harness and carabiners, 3-D maneuvers, selections and doctrines of the troops, and weaponry systems, all fit with the challenge of the environment: the high Titans, walls, and the terrain outside the wall. This could be an example of “symbolic interaction” between human and his environment. Lecturers on Sociology should use this manga as a reference. Social class and social structures in this manga is also interesting to criticized.
2. Isayama’s implicit massages probably related with a “bodily experience of flesh”, which related on the representation of Eren as “good titan”, in regard with Eren’s role and function to his teammates. Every society has different meaning of understanding bodily experience: in sex, ideals of beauty, self-image, body-image, fashion, hygiene, etc... and in Isayama’s world the bodily experience related to with the “human as resembles of God’s superpower”, but it was probably FAIL, and the plot was build around the failure of human being to resemble God. Thanks to Eren who still has human’s heart in his Titan body.
3. I still suspect one thing but hasn’t been resolved since I still don’t have time to read the latest SNK manga; the story reflected an unique social groups/class too, where some of the character has intersectionality identity, but obviously Rivaille is not one of them.
