Be grateful for everything you have.
When it comes to our lives and our bodies we always focus on what we want to change and forget about all the wonderful things we have.
I was listening to a podcast who had a therapist who specializes in body dysmorphia as a guest. She was saying that instead of trying to change someone’s perception of their body, she teaches them to be grateful. Instead of saying “My legs are fat,” she has her patients say “I am grateful for my legs because they work. They allow me to walk and get around.”
I really liked this because she wasn’t trying to convince someone that their legs weren’t fat, because body dysmorphia doesn’t just change overnight. You’re not suddenly going to be okay with with your body and think it’s perfect. Instead, she changes how you look at your body. Does it work? Does it allow you to do the basic things you need to do?
Being grateful for what you have is a huge part of being happy. If you’re always wanting your life or your body to be different, you’ll never really appreciate what you have.
Be grateful.
