hmm would we consider the king in yellow a type of siren in some ways, I was looking at the cover for the game Chorus in Carcosa and was instantly reminded of Sleep Token, I wonder if Robert W Chambers work was an influence on their aesthetic?
My January haul was the following, all following along the lines of Sylvia Wynter narrative human and genres of human (that we are both flesh and words):
Thinking with Theory and Qualitative Research - im in the process of making my own notes with this, it focuses on viewing data from multiple perspectives but in a way thats less methodology and relies on thinking/feeling/acting using a mix of disciplines to aid in the process of becoming.
How Forests Think : Toward and Anthropology beyond the Human - truly thankful for @kamalaskadoosh recommendation as this re-contextualized some of my experiences, how i've pivoted with my thought processes as I de-center the human and tune inward and outward towards being open to the world.
Light in the Dark by Gloria E Anzaldua - after reading Kohn's work and feeling somewhat dissatisfied with the ending, and well how he wrote women, I turned to Gloria as she was mentioned in Thinking with Theory, and her belief in writing being a truly transformative process and how she incorporated this into her daily life both as ritual, habit, becoming wholly a tool for the craft.
The Anzalduan Theory Handbook - provided in depth analysis of her theories and a framework for her method, I adopted some but not all as her process was extremely reiterative and likely contributed to her failing health (which is not conducive to creating a new body).
I then felt drawn to Metamorphoses by Emanuael Coccia, I've been trying to find a book that nailed down what drew me to xenomorph and its this book did it, but also imo has gotten me closer to what initiated me to this journey. Coupled with Anzaldua's writing and her theory around writing as if its real to bring into being (whatever you are conjuring- for me I'm re-origin story that can be used as the skeletal for the new body I'm currently in/making/growing into and a re-telling of the Event that started it all that I can further flesh out into future projects).
I'm hoping by next week I will know what my February hold will look like but I will likely return to How We Became Posthuman and Tricksters Makes this World as I map out next steps. ETA: yep, Im tackling Ambergris again.
But Xenoerotics is my first completed book for February, a lot of interesting ideas but truly just makes me want to re-read Ambergris which I think will tackle the idea of humans feeling confined/not able to connect with their expansiveness/being bored with their bodies better than this though certain sections were very intriguing and left me wanting more.
