   He doesn’t know what he is supposed to say. He’d tried so hard, dammit! Everything he had done had been with the express purpose of acheiving this goal, and for all of a moment, he’d let himself believe it was true. That he had finally, finally broken through.

    But then he received the same message as ever from his secretary, and he let out the longest of sighs. His hands drift through his hair, repeatedly, a grounding sort of gesture.

          “ I failed. As always. ” 

     He muses aloud, uncaring of who might be around. For a moment, his expression is loose, drawn into despairing lines.
