Bit of Britain Next Top Rider

Hello My name is Devon Olivier. I’ve been riding since I was 8 years old and have been eventing since I was 12. I currently have three horses of my own and a small group of students and horses in training with me. Over the last few years I have used social media as a way to share my journey in the equestrian world with others. I’ve been growing a steady following on instagram, tumblr, snapchat, twitter, etc in the past few years. With these accounts I could spread the word about Bit of Britain's amazing products and promote them on several different types of social media platforms. My mother is a photographer which has helped me to always have a steady stream of pictures and videos to update my social media accounts with. In addition to getting exposure via social media, I try to actively compete across the east coast in both eventing and the hunter/jumper circuit which could serve as great advertising opportunities. I’m currently a business major at the University of Georgia, I also served as the personal relations chair for the eventing team at UGA which gave me experience dealing with sponsorships and promoting our sponsored products as part of the team as well as overall business knowledge. I know how important it is for these relationships to be mutually beneficial and I think I could come up with some very creative ways to get exposure for your company and products.

Why should Bit of Britain sponsor me?

When I was younger and my mother would come to the barn with me she would make me tell her my goals for every ride. What did I want to accomplish? How was I going to accomplish it? What was my goal for the ride? I won’t lie, it was annoying and hard for a nine year old to plan what I was going to do while riding. Although it was infuriating then, years down the road setting goals has helped me get to where I am. I started eventing much later than many others. I competed in my first event the summer after graduating high school. Coming into the sport at 18 years old going novice and seeing other girls my age already at the top level of eventing gave me the hope that I could accomplish my dream. I wanted to make it to the top. I could make it to the top. I had to make it to the top. I did learn from the forced goal setting by my mother. You can chase any dream that you want but to keep your faith and energy to keep hunting, your goals will save you. Setting goals for every ride, lesson, competition, month, year has helped me keep my faith in my dream. At times when my dream has seemed farther and farther away my goals have helped me see just how far I’ve come. This sport can knock you down so fast and so hard you’re only savior is seeing just how many goals you have accomplished.  I have been knocked down and I have gotten back up again. When I am at my lowest this sport is what picks me back up again. I know my dream and I have set my goals. There is no stopping me now.

By working with Bit of Britain I hope to help increase Bit of Britain’s presence on social media with fun positive posts. I ran the social media for a sustainable coffee cart so I know the importance of posting often and with engaging captions. I am incredibly driven and want to become a professional in the sport. I will take this seriously while also bringing a fun and unique perspective and edge to my social media posts. I often get frustrated that my non-horsey friends do not know about the sport that means so much to me. Giving the sport positive publicity to non equestrians is a huge motivator for my social media activity. I am also a college student so would like to start #collegeequestrian to document some of the crazy things that college equestrians do to be able to keep riding. College is such a hard time to keep up with riding that I think it would be inspiring to other college equestrians to work hard and keep riding. Although I do not have a huge social media following at the moment, I think that this opportunity would increase it exponentially. This an amazing opportunity that I will throw my heart and soul into. As I said earlier, I know my dream. By having this opportunity I hope to help increase Bit of Britain’s social media presence and product advertisement while also achieving some more goals on the way to my dream.
