echoes | stiles and caroline
Lately Caroline had been throwing herself into every mundane task she could find. School was a good way to occupy herself, and so was spending time in the training room. But Caroline was a very diligent, organised person, and it wasn't long before she'd run out of things to do. Luckily, having a parent in Dauntless with an endless supply of jobs was just what Caroline needed. And she often found herself camping out in her office which she shared with Stiles' dad, waiting for her to tell her what to do next.
Liz hadn't come back from patrol yet, so Caroline sat lazily in the computer chair, spinning herself one way, and then back around the other until she got dizzy. Then she'd stop for a while, and she'd do it all over again. Caroline didn't really care that she had to wait and had no idea how much longer she'd be. She spent a lot of time in this office as a kid, and it was always comforting to her, being back here. Caroline tried not to think about it, but it was also where she spent a lot of time with Stiles when they were kids.
But that's why she was here, to get Stiles out of her mind. She hadn't spoken to him since the bonfire, and she wasn't planning on it either. The only contact she'd had with him was awkward glances in the school hallways before one or the other hurried off in the opposite direction. It killed her to have this distance between them, but she wasn't going to make the first move to fix things. And she was sure he wasn't either. She looked up as her mom and Stiles' dad walked into the room, looking tired from their patrol. "Good day?" she asked them, earning a friendly hug from Stiles' dad and smile from her mom. "Tiring day," they replied in unison, and Caroline laughed. But then all three of them turned towards the doorway as another person entered the room, the smile on Caroline's face vanishing as quickly as it had appeared. "I uh, I'm gonna go," she stuttered, making a move for the door.
