Here is a quick throwback to our recent trip to Korea this past fall. I have lots more posts for you from Korea but here is one that should blow your socks off! Who wants some Bogeo, a.k.a. Bok (both Korean), a.k.a. Blowfish, a.k.a. Fugu (Japanese), a.k.a. Puffer Fish? This restaurant is located in Seoul, South Korea, and like many restaurants there they feature one main protein but offer a few others. This one was Fugu, the deadly Puffer fish if it is prepared improperly. Luckily, as you can probably tell, I am still alive. (Unless this message is being sent to you by a bot.) I have had Bok a few times and have enjoyed it each time. I was even lucky enough to experience a 7 course tasting menu with it. Pictured here is Tempura Bok/Bogeo, followed by chicken Katsu or chicken cutlet with curry sauce. Then you have Bok/Bogeo Udon with Soba noodles and fresh Bok/Bogeo swimming out front of the restaurant. Typically you get a numbing/tickling sensation in your mouth when you eat Pufferfish but it is not an unpleasant experience and it is quite tasty! The reason why this fish is considered so dangerous is that the intestines, ovaries and liver of Bok/Bogeo or blowfish contains a poison called tetrodotoxin, which is 1,200 times deadlier than cyanide. The toxin is so potent that a lethal dose is smaller than the head of a pin, and a single fish has enough poison to kill 30 people. That being said I am still alive and kicking. Food is meant to be fun and exciting and if you are ever looking for a thrill ride give blowfish a try. Please go to a reputable restaurant and don’t try to filet one on your own. Typically, most of the deaths are in the form of dribble fisherman or food enthusiasts with no clue what they are doing. . . . . . . . . . #livedangerously #dangerousfood #bok #bogeo #fugu #pufferfish #blowfish #yummy #tetrodotoxin #iamstillalive #eatdangerously #dontbestupid #nycmanofmanytalents #nyclife #scenefromseoul #newyorker #newyorkcitylife #asia #seoul #korea #southkorea #asseenaroundseoul #koreanfood #bonappetit #saveurmag #saveur #food52 #eater #foreigner #tourist (at Seoul, South Korea) https://www.instagram.com/p/B58qm65nl_x/?igshid=1524vajomz5q9
