Last week-end Bold Hype Gallery, an art space in Chelsea, hosted "Scorsese: An Art Show Tribute," an exhibition commemorating the life and work of one of New York City's most beloved filmmakers.

Ladies and gentlemen, here is the finished Bill the Butcher piece made for the Scorsese exhibit being put on by Spoke art at Bold Hype in New York.

It's 18 x 24 inches, hand cut stencils, Chinese newsprint and sprayed aerosol on stretched canvas

Scorsese exhibit at Boold Hype in New York!!!

Don't forget my east coast friends, I'll have work on display at the Scorsese exhibit being held at Bold Hype in New York. The show is being put together by the fine folks at Spoke art from San Francisco. The show only runs for a weekend and the opening night gala is the 19th of April.

Get there early... as of right now the guest list is up to 1000!!! But I promise, If you have to wait in line it'll be worth it. I've seen some of the other work that will be on display and this show will be a happening, a once in lifetime exhibit that you can experience for only one weekend!

Sadly, I won't be there in attendance, I'm pulling one all nighter after another in preparation for the ChIcago comic con, C2E2, which is the following weekend!!!

This here is just a small sneak peek of the Travis Bickle piece that will be on display. Also included in the show are portraits of Bill the Butcher, Willem Dafoe as Jesus, and Jodie Foster as Iris.

I Recall Every Fall (for Spoke Art's Scorsese: an art show tribute)

I'm pleased to be able to share the Raging Bull-inspired piece I've created for San Francisco's Spoke Arts show, Scorsese: an art show tribute, which runs from Friday 19th April to Sunday April 21st at Bold Hype Gallery in NYC.

Going back through Scorcese's films seeking inspiration, I suddenly spotted the aesthetic similarities between the pool where Jake first sees Vickie, and the boxing ring. Both flat surfaces effectively, framed/penned in by 3 railings for the pool, and 3 ropes for the ring. I felt this could work well visually, but then also have a nice semantic depth to it, as it's possible to see Jake and Vickie's first meeting as the beginning of his downfall, both personally and professionally.

Ten gicleé prints will be for sale at the show, and then online afterwards.
