You walked out your house, a little pissed off by your brother who wouldn’t stop bickering at you, for, basically anything you did around him.
You searched the jacket you slipped on right before, finding a pack of cigarettes and grabbing the lighter from your pocket. Courtesy from Ponyboy slipping it in your pocket earlier today at school.
You put a hand around the cigarette in your mouth, lighting it up quickly and taking a huff.
You didn’t really have an idea of what you were doing, your headset stuck on just going on a walk. Hopefully to blow off some steam.
You took a turn, passing the park and taking a seat on the bench nearby.
You looked up, gee the sky was finally clear. You noticed a lot of stars through out the sky, shining bright even if no one was watching. ‘Lucky day for them,’ you thought. Someone to watch them finally came, very obviously you.
You turned your head, hearing a group of boys slapping each-others shoulders, laughing loudly. Probably— no definitely— disturbing the silence built up in the neighborhood.
You once again shuffled through your pocket, searching for something to defend yourself if they tried something. To no avail, you came up with nothing.
‘Fuck. Should’ve brought some protection,” you thought. A switchblade would’ve been nice. Geez, even a pen would’ve helped.
Before you knew it, a soc pointed at you. The group of boys looked over, yelling “Hey greaser! Go home and find some more raggedy clothes, why dont ya?” That broke a laugh out of a few of them.
Without thinking you replied, “Go pick on someone your own size dick.”
You stood up from the bench, still holding the cigarette in your fingers. You took a puff, dropping it underneath your sneaker and smushing it.
You looked back up at them, your breath caught in your throat when a few of them were walking towards you, their little minions following behind.
Guess they didn’t like that.
You backed up, repeating over and over in your head, ‘dont get any closer.’
You couldn’t find words to say, like your mouth sewn shut in that moment. It felt like your breathing was loud enough for everyone to hear. Heart beating loud enough to feel it in your head.
Before they got close enough to touch you, you snapped back to reality. You turned your head, beginning to run down the street.
“Shes running!” One of them yelled. You could hear the foot steps behind you, beating closer.
How much you wish in this moment you stayed in track.
One of them landed a push to your back, shoving you to the ground head first.
Your head ached, causing you to get a bit dizzy.
Before you knew it, one of them were atop you, smashing their fist into your cheek. You spit out some blood, Taking a breath as another landed on the other side by your lip.
You could feel the blood dripping down your chin, to your throat. Your lip split open, burning as it did.
You planted your hands on his neck, his face, trying to disorient him. You punched him back, right in the eye. It caused him to stumble back a bit, using this chance to push yourself backward with your elbows.
Someone ran by, kicking hard into your side and causing you to flip over into your other side. You could already imagine the bruises that will pop up later.
More of them began kicking you, your side, your shoulders, before someone stepped right on your back. They stepped hard too, feeling like you were pushed deeper into the ground.
They gripped the back of your hair, harshly tugging towards them and spitting on you before dropping your head back down. It felt hard as hell, they probably didn’t mean to do it that hard but what did they care how bad it hurt?
Someone grabbed you from your armpits, dragging you upwards and keeping you pinned in their arms. One last time, someone landed a punch straight to your jaw. Whoever was holding you tight, let you go as it did, watching as you fell on the concrete and spit out more blood.
They began to walk away, a few of them kicking you before following the group.
Your vision was a bit blurry, stuff around you blurring together.
You could hear someone shuffling towards you.
You covered your face, bracing yourself to get beat even more.
“Jesus y/n! What the hell happened?”
They grabbed your wrists, pulling them away from your face. It was Ponyboy.
The relief you felt seeing him, taking a breath before using whatever strength left to hug him. He held you, holding you tight enough as to not hurt you.
You sobbed into his shoulder, leaving whatever tough shield you had before.
His words felt soft, anything but what you felt before. It calmed you, giving you some room in between sobs to finally speak.
“The soc’s man..” You let out, shaky. “D-didn’t think what I’d said would’ve-“ you choked, “pissed em’ off so bad.”
“Geez girly. Lemme take you back and fix you up.” He tried standing, holding your arm around his shoulder as you limped back to his place with him.
It was a blur, walking into the Curtis house, Darry and Soda looking back and noticing you. They let go of whatever they were mad about before. Maybe Pony walked out of the house after something happened, it didn’t matter to you.
He took you to their bathroom, opening the cabinet for their first-aid kit.
Darry popped up outside the bathroom, looking over your face. “What happened?” He spoke. Pony looked at you and back at him.
Ponyboy did the talking, not really letting you speak, though you probably wouldn’t of been able to nonetheless and get the words out. You didn’t want to worry any of the Curtis’.
“She got jumped by the Soc’s. She said it might’ve been something she said.” He dabbed a cotton ball with peroxide on your nose, which was also a bit busted up. “Stupid soc’s can’t take a break.” He said a bit angrily.
Ponyboy was soft with you, Holding your head with one hand as he finished cleaning your face, and putting a bandage around the bottom of your nose that felt almost like it split open.
He let you out your arm around him, leading you to the couch to let you sit down. He went to the kitchen, grabbing some water and handing it to you.
He sat next to you, watching the TV.
You drank some of the water, putting it on the stand by the couch.
You rested your head on his shoulder, whispering a thank you that hopefully only he could hear.
“Of course, dont even mention it,” he smiled at you.
His breathing helped calm you down, letting you slowly succumb to your tiredness.
The world slowed down for a moment, peace settling over the room, or at least Ponyboy.
