Iris had met Captain Kirk only a few times -- on her first day on Enterprise, and once or twice when he’d come into engineering. They had been casual encounters, casual enough that the lieutenant wasn’t sure the captain even knew her name. Not that she could BLAME him -- there were hundreds of people on this ship, and she was just a single engineer. There were more important things for him to know. ( She was also thankful that her forwardness with Scotty didn’t get her into trouble with the captain because any other CO would have been frustrated with her. scotty usually shot some sass right back ).
Is was this assumption that led to her being SURPRISED when Captain Kirk called her to meet him in the B-deck conference room. Scotty had ushered out our of engineering, assuring her that it was alright to leave in the middle of her shift. Something felt off about this, but the telepath suppressed the temptation to listen around the ship, knowing she’d have the truth revealed sooner than later.
The journey to the conference room SHORT, giving her little time to think -- Iris was at the door, and for a moment just stared at it. The uneasy feeling lingered in her stomach, but she couldn’t pin down why. She pressed the door chime, and when the doors opened, she walked through and to the opposite side of the table to the captain, nodding her head in greeting.
“Captain -- I came as quick as I could. What can I do for you, sir?”
