this kind of post is incredibly out of left field for me, I know, but I was excited about this innocuous throwaway line when i first heard it because, and hear me out, this is the very first time (as far as I remember- I could very well be forgetting something) that it's been confirmed Jewish people exist in Elmore. now, you could ask, "why wouldn't they exist?" which is fair, especially since at least secular christianity is confirmed (most prominently by the existence of xmas). and there are biblical names like Sarah, and even straight-up Judith. but it's still cool to see something like a bar mitzvah mentioned. hey, bar mitzvah age is around Gumball and Darwin's age bracket, does whoever this is go to their school? does Elmore even have other middle schools?
it made me think about questions I've never considered before. there would probably need to be entirely new fields of halacha for stuff like sentient objects/animals/food and the weird standards of modesty the town has (The Pants was a whole episode on that lol). How does the existence of ghosts/ the existence of an underworld and the ability to visit it interface with theology in Elmore overall? if elmore has a Jewish community or communities, is it entirely offscreen, or are any of the characters we've seen (even background characters) Jewish already and we just haven't found out? this line isn't supposed to imply Larry is jewish... or is it? (I know you don't have to be to do a bar mitzvah photography gig, I have at least one family member who fits into that category). but he does have meyer in his last name which could be something. he is definitely not keeping Shabbat, but maybe society's total dependence on him makes it pikuach nefesh in the same way it is for doctors (or maybe he's just secular, or maybe I'm just going down a rabbit hole here and the line doesn't imply anything to begin with.) and he makes cheeseburgers obviously. so that's a point against any kind of observance.
wait. Julius' last name is Oppenheimer and he's around bar mitzvah age (well, the character clash cards have him at 14, but we know how those things are). and his mom wears a head covering. and he's based on fleischer-esque cartoons and the fleischer bros. were jewish (i'm really stretching it now, aren't I?)
could be headcanon fuel? or I could just be a weirdo.
