This line here got me thinking about Mic’s relationship with making music. To me this doesn’t sound like somebody speaking from personal experience, be it about singing or writing songs. He seems to have Seen these things in other young people, but by the sound of it, he’s not one of them. He didn’t get that support.
His little comment about one of the chords when you play guitar during the anime’s festival arc implies that he knows how to play the guitar, and we all know that he’s a rapper, albeit a bad one (see the Drama CD where he raps for All Might, and the fact that in the My Hero Academia: School Briefs vol 4, everyone hated his “Monster Mash” rap, and by extension, his entire class’ festival performance). He’s been rapping since he was just a teen.
Yes his raps aren’t good, but I can’t help but feel like he’s not being serious when he does them. To him it’s just a fun thing to do! That or maybe, no, he’s not good at it... but it’s because he doesn’t personally care to be. I mean if he can give that kind of serious praise to Jirou, why would he then turn around and suck at writing and performing himself?
I’d like to believe that Mic doesn’t really write anything serious and just raps silly things that is very offbeat, but he’s actually got books of really passionate, intense and maybe also melancholic songs. He just never shows them to anybody because he doesn’t want anybody to see that side of himself. He’s known to keep his feelings to himself, so I could see him being embarrassed about a lot of the lyrics because he’s embarrassed about his own emotions. He just doesn’t want to feel anything at all, it’s so much easier. So when he does write something serious and actually good, looking at those texts just makes him want to crumple them up and toss them away.
But that’s just a headcanon of mine.
