Blueberry bird bones 🫐 🐦
Do you know how to dye skulls? I want to make one purple after it's cleaned^~^
You can dye skulls with lots of different things! Coffee, tea, fruit & vegetable juices, and products like RIT dye work well too. Bone is quite porous and holds dyes well (and paint and ink too for that matter).
I’ve got a coyote toe bone I dyed with some juice from the concord grapes in my yard a few years ago and it’s held its vivid blue-purple color well over the years. I’ve also used water left in the pot after I boiled some beets to dye some small skulls and bones before and it gave them a neat pinkish coloring.
Whatever you use, the more concentrated your dye and the longer you leave the skull in the more vivid the coloring will be.
Hope that helps! Good luck!
These are the first bones I've stained! I used beet juice and got a nice magenta brown color. The bones in the upper right are undyed and nature cleaned for comparison. I think I'll do blackberry next! Sorry about the crappy photo quality. Lol.
