I’ve loved this creepy idea since I stumbled upon it ages ago. There are many directions it could go. Here’s one. 792 words.
(Thanks for the idea, @otherwindow!)

“Wait, what are you doing?” Yvette asked.
The panic in her voice made Rosalind stop halfway to the cottage door. “Taking the scraps outside?” she said, unsure.
“Why?” Yvette demanded, hurrying over to yank the plate of chicken bones from her guest’s unresisting hands.
“For the bone fairies,” she said simply.
“WHY would you — do you FEED the bone fairies back home?? How are you still alive?”
“What?” Rosalind asked in deepening confusion as Yvette dumped the bones into the fireplace. “If you don’t feed them, they start nosing around instead of cleaning the woods of carrion.”
“What?” Yvette echoed, turning from the fire. The two stared at each other for a moment.
“Do we have different types of bone fairies?” Rosalind asked.
They stole my bones. Tell Them to give me my bones back, getting to classes is really hard without them.
Muse(s): The bone fairies
Inspired by this post , though I’ve changed a couple of things. This will be an about for them as a collective, with individuals being named as I come up with them.
Names: Varies, though they probably wouldn’t tell you
Age(s): Varies, but most are a few hundred at least
Appearance: Most are at least 15 feet tall with grayish or black horns. Their wings and skin are variations of the same shade.
Personality: For the most part, vicious and territorial. They keep to themselves and rarely come out save to hunt or collect bones. They do, however, have a soft spot for children and will almost never attack them (unless they’re vicious brats trying to harm them). The average lost child will usually be returned by them. They’re the same with most fey, though they keep their distance from them on purpose.
Powers: Immense strength and speed, as well as the mental ability to translate what they say into the minds of others should they choose. Other powers vary.
History: The bone fairies are also descendants of the phoenix-the death part, that is. They live deep within the nest as well as the Moors and a distant part of Ulstead. Any humans who dare to venture in usually never return. Most find them absolutely terrifying, and for good reason.
It takes a lot for them to emerge from their territories, but they will if the situation is dire-or they have someone or something to protect.
