“This is Brian Peter George St John le Baptiste de la Salle Eno’s first solo recording featuring his vocal, and what you might consider to be ‘songs’ as opposed to fluffy white clouds of ambient experimentation, since Another Green World. There’s 30 years between them but there’s more than just a coincidental symmetry in the sound. Although Robert Fripp’s guitar doesn’t feature on this album, he’s listed as a “lyrical and musical helpmate” along with other celebrity friends such as David Bowie, Annie Lennox and Robert Wyatt. . Despite Eno’s obvious mastery of his recording studio and all those expert listening ears, the album itself is a bit non. There’s some lovely bass lines and suitably interesting atmospherics but not much that stands out. This wouldn’t matter if it was one of Eno’s ambient albums because by their nature, they’re not meant to ‘stand out’, but a largely conventional vocal/song-based album like this needs a little more oomph...” .
