Snippets of Cherep’s life, with a side dish of Bonedancer. Necromancers, the two of them.

"The skeleton is on fire." The young Russian turned her attention to the obviously on fire undead to her teacher, who was leaning on a cane and gazing over the undead army they were using to... Well, storm a castle. She was not sure what the inhabitants had done to anger Bonedancer, but he was mad enough to do this so she wouldn't ask. Besides, it was a good learning experience. A quick look over the small army confirmed that the one skeleton near them was the only undead currently on fire. Bonedancer turned his attention to her, tilting his head slightly. "So?" "Why is the skeleton on fire?" The question was rather deadpan for her, but she didn't feel like spending energy on being upset over his usual blase attitude about these kind of things. The necromancer shrugged and answered with a 'dunno'. A hundred years spent with the black-haired man was enough for the Russian to not groan in annoyance.

A few hundred years later, two necromancers were standing by themselves in a forest. The Russian tilted her head at the older of the two of them, her thoughts turned to memories of times spent with him. "You are a horrible teacher, Bones." "You turned out alright, didn't you?" He was giving her the kind of goofy grin that made the now grey-skinned necromancer roll her eyes. With how many times she had been in danger because of him? The times he couldn't answer her questions? "No thanks to you, I'm sure." There was no bite to her words. Bonedancer coughed in a manner she was sure was supposed to be discreet. For an over dramatic necromancer it wasn't bad. "Well... We split here. You don't need me by your side anymore, teaching you some silly tricks. You're already on the verge of surpassing the teacher, Cherep." He smiled. "And this way, we're eve-" She cut him off. "Stop acting like you don't owe me anything." Grey eyes narrowed dangerously at him. "You owe me a lifetime of favors for all the times I hauled your ass out of danger." At least he had the decency to look sheepish. "I want to say you're wrong, but then I'd be wrong." She couldn't help rolling her eyes at him, and smiling. "See you around, Bones. Try not to blow yourself up, alright?" "I make no promises!"

"So I found this waterfall and I wanted to know if you'd wanna come see it with me?" Cherep had to keep herself from rolling her eyes at the hopeful tone in her former teachers voice as she poured the latest potion into a small crystal bottle. "I don't really have time for that, Bones. I have work, potions to make, and a criminal gang to shut down. They cause too many unnecessary deaths." Cherep hummed, closing the bottle and putting it in her bag. "Enjoy your waterfall." She hung up before he had time to answer. Playing the role of vigilante was not her usual fare, but with the amount of deaths this gang had caused she was getting irritated. Premature deaths were unnecessary, and if they couldn't embrace the beauty of life they might as well be embraced by the beauty of death. She could use this opportunity to test something out with the life stream, even. Now she just had to make a squad of undead warriors. She knew exactly where to get those. Taking her coat and bag as she left her apartment, the Russian necromancer turned the plan over in her mind, and a more genuine smile slowly settled on her face. Yes, it would do nicely.

After the Hall of Bones, she wasn't about to touch the complete skeletons. On the other hand, surely there was nothing wrong with touching a collection of bones embedded in rock, particularly if parts of the entire skeleton were missing. Gingerly, she touched a thin claw with her finger. The flash burned into her eyes. Blinking to clear her vision, Daine heard the last thing she wanted to hear in the world: the sound of crumbling rock. First to come free was die skull, followed by the heronlike neck. Next came the overlong arm bones, spine, and bits of ribcage. Pieces moved as if connected, even when they weren't. Outlying chunks of bone jumped from the rock and gathered around the main skeleton as the hipbones separated from their tomb. Look! said Zek, squeaking in excitement. If there's any missing, the bones leave room for it! "Wonderful," she whispered. She didn't share his enthusiasm: it made her queasy to look at those absent—or invisible—chunks. The legs yanked themselves free. The skeleton tried to stand and was brought up short, its tail still embedded in limestone. It looked back over its rump to see what the holdup was. The beak opened in a soundless cry that revealed small teeth. It switched its hips, freeing its tail. At liberty, the lizard-bird extended its arms, then its legs, having a good stretch after a long nap.

Having Pounce/Faithful as a pet would be pretty cool, as much as he can really be considered as being a 'pet'. Ooh, Bonedancer would be cool, too! Just freak everyone out, haha.
