star trek au where instead of a bar fight, jim ends up puking his guts out in the men's bathroom, and bones, who wanted a drink but decided it wasn't worth the hangover on the shuttle the next morning, slipped in and heard jim, then let himself into the stall and started with, when jim looked up at him, "it's okay, i'm a doctor" and jim latched onto him ever since.

there was no specific time when bones started calling jim "darlin'." it was never a big deal, he started it very early in their friendship because he was used to married life and, truth be told, jim never really minded. it managed to get to the point of such casualty that bones once let it slip out while on the bridge, and while jim nodded at him like he mentioned the weather, the rest of the crew turned around and just stared.

star trek au where pike was actually jim's father but winona never told jim, so when pike walks into a bar in iowa and sees his son bleeding on a table, he can't help himself when he intervenes, despite winona's wishes for him to stay out of his life and to keep jim from outer space.

star trek au where jim didn't get into a fight with cadets but actually some hicks from his town, and when pike interrupted they wouldn't listen to him, because he wasn't their commanding officer or in charge of them at all, so he rolls his sleeves up and helps jim throw a few punches.
