In her sixth year, Margaery had no qualms about the House she’d been sorted into--save, of course, for its common room. The light that filtered down through the cool water of the lake and reached the dungeon level was dim and a sickly green. Those conditions were unsuitable for a girl who thrived on warm summer days and underneath the brightness of the sun. As a result, she spent her spare hours elsewhere within the castle or out on the grounds. Her favorite spot was a grassy knoll on the outskirts of the courtyard--close enough to the castle so as not to be too isolated but far enough to escape the shadow and stone within.
It was here that she and Garrett had settled for the afternoon, books and parchment and quills scattered all about the blanket she’d laid out for them. With their final exams approaching, every spare moment was dedicated to studying--or at least it should have been. Margaery had been pacing slowly about their spot, book in hand as she muttered a particularly important passage under her breath. The motion helped her to focus, especially when she was so drained from the hours upon hours of study.
A hand entered her line of sight and then the book was being tugged free of her grip. She opened her mouth to protest but the words were lost in a gasp of air as Garrett wrapped an arm about her waist and pulled her in close. His playful grin, laughing eyes, and wind tousled hair dominated the whole of her vision. For a moment, the exhaustion and irritation in her expression held but then relaxed into an amused smirk. “If you wanted to take a break, all you had to do was say so,” she said, the chastisement carrying no true weight as she settled into his embrace.
