Reposted from @thefoodietrails That Bengali meal that promotes both LOBH ' cravings' aswell as LYADH 'lazyness' . On mybplate us the simplest of Bengali meals, something we would have when we were infants or children, a meal which we crave when we are sick whether it is a physical sickness or homesick, a meal that's comfort food personified. Aloo shiddo - boiled masshed potatoes, with a tempering of mustard oil, mustard seeds and dried red chilli. Dal shiddo - boiled masur dal, where the water evaporates leaving a thick dal. Only salt and a little mustard paste for flavours. No tempering. Deem shiddo - boiled egg, which is mashed into the potatoes while eating. An accompaniment of fish here we made kasundi kingfish, which was simply marinating the kingfish in kasundi paste and fresh green chillies, and grilling. But the piece de resistance was the fragrant small rice Gobindobhog rice , just the smell of which is worth the meal, and which can be pretty much eaten sans anything with a little ghee, raw onion and green chillies. This simple meal is enjoyed in the poorest of Bengali homes ,to the richest of homes. And as I said it arouses both lobh and after a meal like this LYADH - or a worth afternoon siesta. What added even more sweetness to the meal ... The fact that a foodie friend I met on Instagram , sent me the gobindobhog rice and kasundi across the country, as a food birthday surprise ! This meal had flavours from Bengal, but also of online friendships, thanks @soumya.sen93 I really appreciate this warm gesture.
